The truth is we were expecting to see a Batak museum, and it's not exactly that. It's a collection of Batak houses, but you can only enter one of them. It's more of a souvenir shop and Batak relics store than a museum.

C’est un bel endroit. 10000 IDR par personne. Sur place nous avons pu avoir une visite guidée improvisée. Activités de danse traditionnelle et démonstration de sculpture sur bois. Un bel endroit.

This is a remarkable place and not to be missed when you are in Toba lake. It takes about 30 minute drive by motorbike from Tuktuk on this beautiful and interesting road. The place is nicely preserved, there are relatively few tourists since it requires more effort to reach and it is peaceful quite and authentic. But the jewel of the visit is meeting Madam Tiolina, who is the force behind this more than 5- year old open air museum. Listening to her knowledgeable explanations about Batak culture, music, traditions and family history was mesmerizing. She also plays and sings for you if you ask. They do NOT have anymore the daily shows, since it is impossible for them to keep the band when so few tourists arrive. However, if you can arrange a group, this fantastic show can be performed. Call her at +62-811-657270. We came for 15 minutes and stayed 3 hours. There is also a direct ferry to Tigaras on the mainland and from there it is quicker to get to Berastagi and/or Medan, so you should consider continuing from there onward.

We visited the Simanindo museum in August 2019. The Batak traditional houses and the royal thumbs are well preserved. In the small museum, there are also interesting and well preserved weapons and music instruments.
We were lucky as we could see the traditional Batak dance, i.e.: Tor-Tor dance.

Lokal dansuppvisning som sker varje dag vid samma klockslag men det verkar som de har en, två eller tre uppvisningar per dag (beroende på veckodag och om det är högsäsong eller inte. Uppvisningen tog ungefär 40 minuter där man mot slutet även blir inbjuden att delta själv i dansen. Säkert kul för den som deltar men kanske ännu roligare för de som tittar på.

The museum is located in Tomok and there is a small entrance charge to visit it, but the people in charge will show you round the Batak House and explain about the Batak culture. We found it very interesting.

Samen met onze chauffeur (individuele rondreis) dit museum bezocht. Entree inclusief Batak dansvoorstelling, IDR 100.000 per persoon. Ik heb het in recente beoordelingen al gelezen en deel hun mening: de dansvoorstelling is waardeloos. De entree is voor Indonesische begrippen schandalig hoog. Wij waren daarnaast de enige toeschouwers. En dachten misschien dat het daaraan lag dat de dansers niet bepaald gemotiveerd waren om op te treden. De voorstelling werd er in 20 minuten doorheen gejast. Naast de hoge entree durven ze ook nog een donatie te vragen en leggen zelf vast een briefje van IDR 100.000 in de schaal. In één woord schandalig! Wij hebben dat na de voorstelling ook laten weten bij de entree maar men vond ons blijkbaar zeurkousen. Veel van de wereld gezien, maar als je er bent, sla deze eentonige voorstelling maar over. In TukTuk is een restaurant dat tijdens het eten een kosteloze dansvoorstelling organiseert en zelfs beter is dan wij nu hebben bijgewoond!

Très joli de l'extérieur mais très petit , moins de 50 mètres carrés , on a vite fait la visite mais on est bien accueilli , on peu s'habiller avec des vetements typiques et une personne nous prend en photo . Ne pas oublier de faire un don car la visite du musée est gratuite et la personne qui vous accueille est très serviable .Prendre aussi le temps de visiter l'extérieur vraiment typique de l'architecture Batak , de belles photos à prendre

Les maisons traditionnelles ressemblent un peu aux maisons du Pays Toraja. On nous explique le fonctionnement des maisons avec le foyer central, elles hébergeaient plusieurs familles avec un confort précaire.

Hier een dansvoorstelling gezien. De huizen zijn prachtig om te zien en er zijn er waar je ook nog in mag. Een aanrader om dit te bezoeken.

They have a great coffee shop at Ruma kaca, the historical house just below the museum. You can sit in the kolonial house or outside in the pavillions. You can also cross to Pulau Tao, a coffee shop on the island off Simanindo. Ask ibu Riris Hasibuan.
