What a brilliant experience!! A definite must do early in your stay. The guides have inspiring personal stories and to hear directly is an eye opening experience.

It was a great walk and so interesting to hear about the story of our guides. :) It was also so much fun to interact with the children. Highly recommend!

It was really amazing! You get a good view of what the situation of street kids in India is like with a personal story with experience being told to you. I can definitely recommend this Organisation and city walk.

very interesting and professional tour. Thank you Junaid for sharing your story with us. I can recommend the tour in the early morning, when the city is not too crowded.

The work Salaam Baalak Trust is doing is impacting the lives of children in an amazingly positive way. The Citywalk is a great way to learn about how they are helping Delhi’s “lost children” and those in need. The guides are incredible and will show you a side of the city people need to be aware of. Support this great organization by joining a tour!

went on a city walk with Julien. he explained the situation of street kids in delhi and the work the Salaam Balaak Trust is doing in clear English. Julien is a magnificent story teller and going on a walk with someone who lived as a street kid himself in the very location is an experience I would recommend to everyone visiting Delhi. The fact that you don‘t see that many kids on the streets of Delhi nowadays is probably also in parts the success of this organisation.

A very well conducted walk that gives an insight into the lives of children less privileged, the work that goes into taking care of them.

Can you please let me know if the areas covered by SBT City Walk is different from the Street Connections Old Delhi walk ? I think the SBT City Walk is 2 hrs, starts at 10 and cost R300, whereas the Old Delhi walk is 3 hrs long and starts at 9 am ..Thanks in advance ! Cheers, Stan

Street Connections is linked to the Salaam Balaak Trust and certainly the walk we did with them was led by a former street child who had spent 6 years in a SB home. Our walk ended at one of the SB homes. It was one of the best things we did whilst in India and I found it so inspiring that I am going back in a couple of months to volunteer with SBT!

is it best to do the city walk or the old Delhi city walk with Rickshaw

Hello
I personally got more out of the salaam Ballak trust walk - but this is because I’m working for a not-for-profit Children’s Foundation.
It is very different to the Delhi rickshaw ride. The Delhi ride is great too but is more of a tourist attraction. Try do both.

I am a 60 year old woman thinking of doing this on my own. I can get a driver to drop me off and then pick me up at the end of the tour, but I don't know how close he can get to the drop off and pick up spots in his car. Will I have to wander around much on my own to find the meeting place at the beginning, and then at the end walk far to find a spot where a driver could pick me up? He can't leave his car.

We are travelling across the north of India in Dec/Jan. I have had two voluntary work trips to India and now that I have a family, I want them to not only have my stories to go on, but to see the type of work and the surroundings I worked in first hand. My children will be 9 and 6 by then. Do you think this activity is suitable (lengthwise particularly, for the amount of walking in the heat etc) for my children's age range?
Thanks in advance,
Ashley

Yes, it is conducted at a gentle pace and can be altered a little, I'm sure, if you let them know the age of your children. I'd do it!

I have this tour booked for my family and me in December. I am curious about tipping. Any advice? Thank you!

Hello. I'd strongly recommend a good tip if you are happy with the walk. The three of us went all out because Lalit went above and beyond what we'd anticipated. He was overwhelmed and we were happy. So, yes. I'd encourage it.

I have booked a tour next week and wonder if there is anything I can bring with me to donate to the Trust (books, toys, pencils , erasers etc) or would a cash donation be of better use.
