In bustling South Delhi this is an quite sanctuary for morning or evening walks. In winters day time is great!! A jogging track of almost 1 km which keeps you away from heavy traffic road noise protected by thick old walls and Golf course on the other side. Authorities have to do much better maintaining this beautiful place. Lights malfunction often in the evening.

Zona archeologica piuttosto dispersiva e disordinata. Più che altro restano alcune mura inserite in un giardino.

This was the last capital of India till 1191.Prithvi Raj used to rule north India from this place. His Army was spread across in the region outside Raj Pithora.
There are lot of legends on why he lost the war to Afghans from Gaur!
One major reason was Jai Chand from Kannauj betrayed him!

The foundations of the Qila Rai Pithora dates back to as early as 8th century! It’s one of the oldest fort of the region and spreads across parts of South West Delhi.

As per the historians , this is the first fortified settlement in this geography built around early 8th century by Tomara dynasty & later further enhanced in the 12th century by Prithviraj Chauhan. The relics are spread across of the south west part of New Delhi. The prominent spots are in Westend Marg near to Saiyad Ul Ajaib Extension, Qutub Golf Course & parts of Sanjay van near Mehrauli.

It is a fort belongs to the Chauhan rulers of Delhi. King Prithviraj Chauhan the Chauhan ruler rebuilt old fort Lal Kot, and extended it further. He renamed it to Qila Rai Pithora. After his defeat to Sultanate forces it was used as Delhi Sultanate fort. In South Delhi areas like Saket, Meharauli, Qutub complex and etc. remains of the walls are still visible. Inside the fort there is a statue of Prithviraj Chauhan. It's a place of tourist interest in Delhi and a picnic spot for locals.

The Durg ( Fort ) once built by Prithvi Raj Chauhan remains only in the form of remnants around Saket & Mehrauli and it is now frequented mostly by Morning and evening walkers who walk on the almost 900 metres walking track that has been built around it.
One should visit the place early morning to enjoy the fresh air and quiet environment which is available here.
I really look forward to coming here for a walk.
