I could spend an entire day and night just walking up and down Mall Road—browsing shops, watching people, eating at chic eateries. There are so much to offer within this road!

The Mall is the hot destination for all tourists in Shimla. We have parked our car in Parking near the Lift. One has to use the Lift to reach the right end of The Mall by paying INR 10/- per person. No traffic is allowed on The Mall except the emergency services. You will not find posters and banners on the walls here. Scores of people walk jaunt here enjoying cool weather of Shimla. The atmosphere becomes more lively and vibrant in the evening with more people amassed here. There are shops, restaurants, bakeries, showrooms, wine shops, tea, coffee and juice parlours, which keeps visitors busy. Tourists are easily lured by heavy discounts in shops and showrooms. We had tea and patties then later Ice Cream while scrolling. In the evening, when lights are on, we clicked several pictures in front of heritage buildings. One can spend hours sitting & walking on The Mall. One can go to The Ridge, Lakkar Bazar on one side and to Vidhan Sabha, Kali Bari Mandir on other side. If you have time, Heritage Walk can be done.

A traffic-free zone, so perfect to join the hundreds of other people strolling and shopping. It's also very clean (fines for littering). There are lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars and you can drop down the steep hill through the maze of streets to see more markets.

The mall road is the center of all attractions in Shimla. Shopping aside, this place has all the best cafe's and food joints in the city. If history attracts you, take a stroll down the streets of the mall and look out for all the heritage buildings. Additionally, if you really want to see how the place has changed over time, you can look at the old pictures of the Mall at the Viceragal lodge, which really gives you a glimpse of how open and beautiful the mall road used to be earlier.
Having said that, the mall road is not bad by any standards, the roads are sparkling clean without a speck of pan spit (can you imagine that in India?). This is a prime example of how you can build on the heritage sites. The ample parking space in and around the mall is especially appreciable.

In Shimla and Manali you can find woolen cloth , shawls abs Pashminas , don’t pay the price quoted , always bargain first and because there are so many shops you can buy from , you can walk away if not happy with price , the price will be reduced further , just remember when buying a genuine pashmina it should be reversible

Would there be any problem taking a taxi from Dharamsala to Shimla in February? How long should it take and costs? Thanks.

نيودلهي, الهند32 مساهمة
it all depends on the weather conditions. as the time you are talking about is February the weather can change in an instant. apart from that its a 8 hour journey minimum. costs can be normal as not many people go during these days

Hi, absolutely yes. When I was there in February, there was several feet deep after an overnight storm. Check on your mobile for Google weather and you can see the temperature and forecast for days in advance

It was pretty chilly at night whne we were there about 3C. During the day we had lots of sunshine but didn't get above 18C. You do need some layers of clothing and a waterproof in case of rain.

Can I carry medium sized suitcases while going up the Lift to the Mall ?

The lift is small and crowded with about 7 to 8 people inside so there is very little space to get luggage in. It is therefore better not to carry medium sized suitcases.
Is it good to visit in mid December ???

It’s better to expect a bit of crowd and as I understand the road conditions are not too good at the moment so it just takes more time to reach. So plan accordingly. Safe trip. Enjoy.
