‪You can view the city from the top. It's basically a view point. Some restaurants were there. From the entrance you will have to walk a bit to reach the view point. ‬

‪A steep climb on a paved road leads to this old fort which is not a must-see destination in itself but on the other hand, just below the fort a magnificent stepwell that is not put forward
in the guides and yet impressive. Although dry at this time. Nice view of the city all the way.‬

‪Its a small fort famous for palace made for queens of the king. Prefer buying composite ticket which covers multiple places in jaipur. Book round trip cab for few hours as you won't get any cab here.

It will take 1-2 hours to explore excluding the visit to wax musuem and sheesh mahal which costs 500 INR separate ticket. This separate ticket was overpriced but good to visit. First time saw a sheesh mahal with floor as well made of broken glass pieces. Do take a small 2 minute path till government run restaurant at the end which provides great view of Jaipur. Restaurant within the fort can be skipped.‬

‪One of the three forts of Jaipur (the others are Jaigarh and Amber), Nahargarh was built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in around 1734, with additions to the fort being made by subsequent rulers over the following nearly two centuries. The fort sprawls over a vast area, though several of the extant buildings have been put to other, commercial, uses: one palace, the Sheesh Mahal, has been converted into a museum of waxworks (Rs 500 per person entry fee), and at least two others have been turned into restaurants. Use of these spaces aside, you have to pay an entry fee to go into the fort: for us (two Indian adults, one child of 11 years of age) this cost a total of Rs 226. We opted not to go to the museum or the restaurants.

Past the museum and further, one of the major sights of Nahargarh is the huge baoli (stepwell), one of the fort’s water reservoirs that still exist. Opposite this, up a slope, is Madhavendra Bhavan, a palace complex built by Madho Singh II in the late 19th and early 20th century. This is especially worth seeing for the many beautiful frescoes that decorate the walls and ceilings of the apartments here (built as residences for Madho Singh and his queens), with some stunning combinations of local and European-inspired art. The terraces of the Madhavendra Bhavan offer panoramic views of the city of Jaipur.

Note that Nahargarh is open till 10 PM; Madhavendra Bhavan’s frescoes are illuminated, so they can be admired even at night.‬

‪we decided to use an uber (booked for whole day, it was 4 times cheaper than the car our hotel was arranging). You will need a sturdy vehicle that can climb up the Aravalli hills to reach the fort. The view of Jaipur from up the fort is magnificent. Nahargarh Fort sits proudly on a ridge of the Aravalli Hills, creating an impressive northern backdrop to the city of Jaipur. It was constructed during the reign of Jai Singh in 1734, and was later expanded in 1868. Nahargarh, which means abode of tigers, was a formidable barrier, defending Jaipur against attacking enemies. Within its walls, the fort houses Madhavendra Bhawan, the summer destination for the members of the royal family. Built by Sawai Madho Singh, the palace has 12 matching boudoirs for the queens, at the head of which is a suite for the king. They are all connected by corridors decorated with delicate murals. Even today the palace is a favoured spot for local picnickers. The fort looks brilliant when floodlit at night. Overlooking the city, it presents a glittering view of the city lights.‬

‪Perched high above Jaipur on the rugged hills of the Aravalli range, Nahargarh Fort is more than just a historic site; it’s a gateway to Rajasthan’s glorious past. With panoramic views of Jaipur, the fort serves as both a photographer’s paradise and a peaceful retreat from the bustling city below.

As you step inside, the fort's winding corridors and intricate chambers make you feel like you've traveled back in time. Every room and wall seem to have a story to tell. The fort is named after Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose legend still echoes within its walls. You can almost feel the whispers of past royalty, the tales of bravery, and the essence of royal life.

Nahargarh is not just about its structure; it's about the experience. The Jaipur Wax Museum within the fort gives visitors a glimpse into regional history and culture, and the spacious courtyards offer a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the cool mountain breeze. As you wander through the expansive fort, you’ll find yourself admiring the detailed architecture that speaks volumes about the skilled artisans of that era.

The magic truly begins at sunset. The sky comes alive with shades of orange and pink, casting a soft golden light over the Pink City below. It’s a view that words can’t fully capture – you have to see it to understand its beauty. As the sun dips, the entire cityscape looks like a painting, etched in hues that only nature could create.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a lover of nature, or someone who just wants to soak in beautiful views, Nahargarh Fort has something for everyone. It’s not just a place you visit; it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. If you’re in Jaipur, don’t miss the chance to witness this unforgettable blend of history, beauty, and serenity.‬
