‪This is a place of religious significance for the devotees of Saint Ramakrishna. Sri Sarada Devi temple is at the lovely river side Belur Math. The temple is devoted to Sri Sarada devi who continued to propagate the teachings of Ramakrishna after he passed away. You could come here on road or by boat.‬

‪Holy Mother Sarada temple at Belur Mutt is a must visit spot for the devotees of Shri Ramakrishna. Sri Sarada Devi was the spiritual consort of Shri RamaKrishna.

She got married to Sri RamaKrishna at the Age of 5 and led a pure divine spiritual life. This temple dedicated to Holy Mother was a wonderful cultural heritage situated next to the Ganges river. It was a tranquil place to do meditation.

We really had a great peace of mind after visiting this spot.‬

‪Sarada Devi (22 .12. 1853 to 20.7. 1920) -Sarada Devi eighteen tears when she married Sri Ramakrishna of Dakshineshwar. She was taught as to how to lead a spiritual life even while discharging her duty as wife. She lived absolutely pure and lived as virgin nun, serving Sri Ramakrishna as his wife cum disciple. Equally so Sri Ramakrishna looked upon her as a form of the Divine Mother. He had gone to the extent of ritualistically worshipping her as the Divine Mother. That incident actually awakened Divine Motherhood in her mind and soul. She was such a pure hearted innocent and godly woman of Hindu culture. She developed an attitude of treating the disciples of Sri Ramakrishna as her own children.

After the sad demise of her Master Sri Ramakrishna she became the unifying center for his disciples. She was adored by his disciples as a Holy Mother. In later years miraculously she turned out to be a great teacher. She had the heart of a Mother which expanded to enfold the disciples in the luminous consciousness of universal Motherhood.

The history of humanity has recorded that for the first time an illiterate woman from a remote village as a maiden decided to look upon all people in the world as her children and surprisingly came out to be dearly loved by each and every one as the ‘Mother of All’.

She lived in the village Jayrambati and also in Kolkata in the house provided to her a home to stay. She personally attended to household duties personally till the end of her life. She had visited the Sri Ramakrishna Math at Bangalore and sat in place on meditation. That holy place is preserved with all sanctity where the devotees sit and pray for a while whenever they visit the spot. She played an important function in the improvement of the Ramakrishna Movement.
Sri Ramakrishna’s disciples looked her as their own mother. They took her as their guru and sought her advice and encouragement, particularly in the matter of Sri Ramakrishna movement. They regarded her as an incarnation of the Divine Mother.
Swami Vivekananda wrote letter to her to get her opinion about his intention to attend the Parliament of Religions in Chicago. After receiving the blessings from her only he decided to go to America.

Before her death, she gave the last advice to the grief-stricken devotees, "I tell you one thing. If you want peace of mind, do not find fault with others. Rather see your own faults. Learn to make the whole world your own. No one is a stranger, my child; the whole world is your own. One must have devotion towards one's own guru. Whatever may be the nature of the guru, the disciple gets salvation by dint of his unflinching devotion towards his guru.”

She died at 1.30 am on 20 .7. 1920. Her body was cremated at the Belur Math. There is temple is dedicated to Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The temple is on the area where her mortal remains were consigned to flames. The Holy Mother’s temple was consecrated on 21.12. 1921.

In 1954, Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, a monastic order for women was founded in her honour.‬
