Be careful with the guides at the entrance of the park and choose well. I Had Bad luck with a Rasta (Eder?). While we were in the Park he turned his back to me several times and was busy with doing something he wanted to hide. Then I noticed that he was drugged. Obviously he hit lines during the tour. Aweful! I felt very uncomfortabel. When we were back finally, he made comments about my appearance and wanted to know If I am travelling alone and why. I really felt harrased. Then He wanted to show me the "real Cahuita" for free. No need to say that I didnt spend a second longer in his company.

The actual national park is stunning and truly is one my highlights of Costa Rica so far. However, there are some really important points that I am disappointed about that I feel the national park authority really need to address:
I booked through Juan Chipan (aqualung), Chipan Tours, and I wasn’t really happy with the way the guide interacted with the environment.
He didn’t once tell people about how fragile the coral reef ecosystem is, he didn’t say that people needed to watch out and make sure their fins didn’t hit the coral as they were swimming, there was no brief whatsoever about protecting this environment or about how important it is. When he dived down he held onto bits, and whilst he was being careful, he really shouldn’t be doing this; it leaves a bad impression on tourists who might think it’s okay to do this too. This needs to be regulated, it needs to be compulsory for tour guides to provide their clients/tourists with the appropriate brief to ensure everyone respects the ecosystem. I didn’t feel our tour operator did that at all, and this isn’t good from an educational point of view, nor from the point of view of protecting the environment/ecosystem.
I was also really disappointed that the use of certain sunscreens isn’t regulated. As a scientist who researches the effect of sunscreens for a living, I know how important it is to ensure people only use natural reef safe sunscreens, not containing BP-3, avobenzone or octocrylene etc. There was a small sign at the entrance to the national park that stated people are encouraged to use alternative sunscreens, but no one was listening - the whole of my group besides myself and my father were using chemical based non-reef friendly sunscreens containing BP-3, Octocrylene and other unfriendly reef chemicals. This is really disheartening, as if this isn’t regulated, the reef will begin to see the effects of this type of pollution too.

We have chosen to visit the Cahuita National Park with a guide. Not because of the route, because it is very easy. Namely, only one route through the Cahuita National Park runs to a road on a path between the sea and the jungle, but without a guide you just walk past most animals without seeing them. .🦡 🦎 🦥 🐒 🐜 🕷
We got the tip to go with Justo Lopez. A very sweet and friendly guide who spotted many animals for us. Even other guides came to ask him where the animals were. You can contact him at his mobile phone 506 87788436 / 506 27550344 or by email jupalori@yahoo.com.
Cahuita National Park is perfect for Wildlife to spot. We saw many sloths during the walk. The trees are full of winding monkeys and also the raccoons have crossed our path. It is also the perfect place to see snakes and other reptiles. Especially the bright yellow, green or brown vipers are unique. We have seen the very toxic Yellow Viper twice. This Eye Lash Viper is quite small but very interesting. The part that she makes unique are the protrusions above their eyes that appear on eyelashes. I
Without the guide we had never spotted most animals. The Brown Vine Snake, also known as the Liana Snake, hardly stands up even in the photo. This hose is very slim but can reach a length of two meters. Because he is smaller, he mainly eats little animals such as lizards, birds, frogs, small mammals and insects. The poison of vine snakes is effective in small prey, but it has not really shown a problem for people. 🐍

Toller Nationalpark.

It was a very easy walk but lots to explore! The wildlife and plants were incredible and you had the waves of the sea always in the background. The beach was stunning and provided a wonderful backdrop.

We’ve booked a house for a week in Cahuita next month. Can anyone tell me the average price for the guides? Both the hike and the snorkelling.
How much time do we need to through the park with guide?

With 2 or 3 hours you'll have plenty of time to see it all. It's a small park with only 1 road (along the sea shore). Kindly note that it tends to get quite busy later in the morning as it's also a beach.

No we just went and he was standing at the entrance. You could always ask someone for him. Many of the guides were related. I think he had like 11 kids or something close to
That.
To see animals, is a morning or afternoon excursion to the park better?

You will see animals anytime. We were in the park all day and saw animals all day. But for the monkeys, when we saw the most, was from 12 to 14h.

My wife and I are planning to visit Cahuita National Park. We are arriving from princess cruise in November Monday from 7am to 6pm. We plan to visit this park on our own instead of taking a tour. Is this doable? Can we take bus from cruise port to this park? What is the bus #? Which stop we have to get off at? Can we pay bus driver in US$ for the bus fare? Once we are in the park ... I heard we just pay donation like $5 each correct? I assume we can take bus back to cruise port. I appreciate any info for this park ... what to do ... transportation tips ... etc. Thanks

Hello, with your timeframe of one day, I might just do a tour the ship likely offers you for transport?? IF not you can take the city bus, can be 1-2 hours each way... Then from bus terminal in Cahuita you can walk to the end of town to the donation entrance and then you will find some professional guides with credentials who are truly studied naturalists and animal lovers that can show you wildlife here that you would never see on your own! It was a casual walk with a laser pointer and believe me.. They know where to look for vipers ect..they are fun. Also, we did not go with a group just hired a guide for the 2 of us! We walked until we decided we wanted to swim. Think of the cool studied naturalist you help secure their job at the park! We made new friends by doing this with a guide saw so much and never will just grab at a branch in the jungle again once you see what is there. it was eye opening! haha!
Hello!
The park looks amazing. We're planning a visit at the end of June. Did you swim in the ocean at the park? Didn't look like people were in the water in the pictures. I wanted to know if its safe to swim there (my 12 year son will definitely want to get in the water).
Thank you!

In Cahuita National Park you could swim in Playa Blanca (1 km walk from entrance), but if you want less risky beach it will be Manzanillo, 30 minutes from Cahuita, 15 minutes from Puerto Viejo downtown.

Regarding the coral reef and marine life, must you snorkel to see it or are there glass-bottomed boats that can give you an equally good view?
