I signed up for the camp. It was one of the best experiences of my life. The weather freakishly did not want to cooperate and the ocean was too calm to surf a few days so surf the jungle quickly pivoted and brought me on a slew of awesome adventures. Spent a lot of time with Misael, who may as well be the mayor of puerto viejo. He knows everyone, is super knowledgeable about all things Costa Rica, and is very inviting and fun to be around. Among some random things I saw him do to exhibit his personality is save a bird from the middle of the street, you would’ve though the bird was his pet. Just sitting on his shoulder, also climbed a coconut tree to grab some coconuts so we could could drink the water after a long hike. He’s a also great surf instructor. I consider him a good friend at this point. The lodging and healthy food at Tierra de suenos were also great. As were the yoga sessions. Super time with great people

I had the most wonderful and fun filled time surfing for seven sessions (spread over 10 days) with Surf the Jungle and learned so much. I had surfed before and was looking to advance my skill level by identifying and paddling into my own waves more often, riding down the line and beginning to carve. I was able to improve more than I had hoped when I booked the seven session package.
Misael is an amazing instructor and selected the best times and best waves for my skill level. We talked about what I was trying to improve and he identified what I needed to focus on during each session. I am now surfing bigger, more challenging waves and have expanded my comfort zone. Couldn't ask for more, but I got more because Misael and the other instructors who work with him (Darshan and Douglas) are so much fun, extremely talented surfers and always there to help, offer encouragement and provide pointers. It was such a great experience and I can't wait to return.
I highly recommend Surf the Jungle whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced surfer because of how well run the school is and how dedicated Misael is to providing a rewarding experience. All equipment is provided if you don't have your own as is transportation from the school located in the centre of Puerto Viejo to the amazing surf spots.

We had to best time and very successful surfing lesson today with these instructors. They took care of me and my family as if it were their own and really encouraged us to learn. They paid close attention to my son and made him feel so safe and confident which allowed him to catch so many waves. We’ll be back for more lessons!

Surf the Jungle is more than just a surf school or tour company, it's the people that make this truly special. Misael grew up in Puerto Viejo and gave us an authentic experience, told us about his childhood, took us to the best waterfall spots that he remembers as a kid. You can't find this kind of stuff anywhere, it was unique because it was personal.
We started with a surf lesson, which I was convinced I would be terrible at but Misael is a renowned surfer and gave us the skills and encouragement to get better. Tbh I thought I would hate it but I LOVED it. Given our wonderful experience, we went back for a kayaking and SUP paddle board tour on the river, Misael picked a cacao for us to try, we also went for a short hike and he climbed a coconut tree and showed us 2 different ways to open the coconut. We were also accompanied by Cindy & Polina who were filming the whole experience and were a great addition to the group, very warm and friendly and made it feel like we were on a trip with friends as opposed to on a tour.
I can't recommend this place enough, and I feel bad for anyone who misses out on this extremely valuable gem that is in Puerto Viejo. We will be back to see our friends for sure :)

Where do I begin?.. When my friend Alice and I first met Misael at Playa Cocles for our first ever surfing lesson, we had no idea that this was only the beginning of an unbelievable week filled with soul-filling experiences and adventures with Surf the Jungle.
Misael has such a passion for surfing and such a calm and confident energy about him that he really made our introduction to surfing such a special experience. Although I unfortunately wasn't a natural at surfing, I had the best time and felt incredibly safe throughout with Misael and his friend Beto guiding us.
We had such a great time surfing with Surf the Jungle that we decided to do a kayak/SUP river tour at Punta Uva with them again two days later. Misael, Polina & Cindy joined us and we just had the best crew vibes!! Little did I know, this would be not only one of the most magical days of the trip, but one of the most magical days of my life!! The river tour itself was so much fun and filled with animals! We then kayak/SUP'd on the ocean which was a pretty special feeling, and then we hiked near the beach where we ate coconuts and different fruits straight from the trees and shared a special moment with a sloth that was crawling on the ground.
On our last day in Puerto Viejo we decided we wanted to try surfing again, but there were no waves so Misael suggested we do the chocolate tour. We originally didn't think this tour would interest us as much, but I'm so glad we did it! Polina and Cindy joined us again and we visited an indigenous community and learned so much about the different healing and practical aspects of all of the amazing Costa Rican vegetation. We then made our very own chocolate and I'll never have a hot chocolate experience quite that special again! We topped off the day by visiting the Violo waterfalls and jumping off big rocks into perfectly cool water.
With every experience we had with Surf the Jungle we felt more and more connected to Puerto Viejo and Costa Rica and felt so incredibly fortunate to have met people like Misael who is originally from Puerto Viejo and clearly has such a love and respect for its ocean, nature and people.
Our week in Puerto Viejo is one I will never forget and Surf the Jungle was such a crucial part of that.
I can't wait to visit Puerto Viejo again and see Misael, Polina and Cindy who really became friends!! :)

I have been taking lessons with Misael at Surf The Jungle for the past couple of weeks, and it has been a great experience.
Misael is a great teacher, who makes you feel safe and comfortable in the water. He knows how to adjust his teaching style to fit your needs and skill level. He was able to help me progress quickly, but also make sure that I was not doing anything that would get me hurt.
Their lessons are really fun and they teach you things you really need to know. I hope to bring my family back in the winter for holiday and also have surf lessons with Misael.

These guys are great, Patricia and Cindy with their perfect and flexible organisation. Misael was my hero and is my buddy, we had a very nice kayak tour and he teached me to my first catch of a wave. SURFING & SURF THE JUNGLE are PURA VIDA!!!

I have always wanted to try surfing and for my 40th birthday, I finally decided to take a lesson. Misael was an amazing instructor, clearly knowledgeable about the area, the conditions, body mechanics, and how to instill confidence in his students. After practicing the basics on the sand, we hit the waves. While athletic, I don't have the greatest balance, but I was able to get up over and over with Misael's guidance. By day 2, I was surfing Cocles on waves I didn't think I could do. He helped me catch waves that were within my abilities, safe, and challenging. I'd come back to Puerto Viejo just to take more lessons!

Si existiera mas puntaje para calificar esta experiencia sin duda lo pondria. Hice un surf camp que incluia clases de surf todos los dias y 2 de yoga entre otras cosas. Todo fue increible: el transporte desde san Jose a Puerto Viejo, el Hotel donde me dejaron increible (no sabia donde me iba a quedar hasta llegar ahi, Hotel Lanna Ban es muy hermoso), las comidas que venian incluidas (se preocuparon de elegir un restaurant vegano delicioso), el lugar donde se imparten las clases de yoga tiene una vista hermosa y la profesora es muy buena, y dejo para el ultimo, lo mejor, gracias a estos profesores puedo pararme en la tabla, Misael y Gallo son muy pacientes, te otorgan tranquilidad y pasión por esto, muy respetuosos. El tour de kayak que viene incluido es muy especial, pueden ver muchos animales a la vez que genera mucha tranquilidad. Si pueden tomen masajes con Patricia (es buenisima). Me quedo con la sensacion de no solo haber conocido un lugar maravilloso y a pararme en la tabla (en distintas playas de la zona), sino tambien de haber conocido personas muy especiales.

This is the best surf school in Puerto Viejo. Misael and his crew are the best. Truly excellent teachers - I improved so much in such a short time because of their excellent instruction. Can’t wait to come back!
