‪This was the only walking food tour we could find. Victor answered so many questions and gave lots of info on the local life/foods. We tried pipa fria (would not have otherwise) and loved it. We tried rondon soup which was highlight of bf’s trip. We tried arroz con pollo which was delicious. Did chocolate tasting and pastry/dessert tasting. These were all places I wanted to try but had a hard time getting to or finding all on my own. Would do this again. I would have loved to hear more about the Jamaican/puerto Viejan experience more.‬

‪Best food tour ever! ‬

‪My boyfriend & I took the food tour with Victor and it was incredible! We spent 4 hours going to over 6 different local sweet and savory food spots and were able to enjoy a very special local experience. Victor is a fourth generation Puerto Viejian who’s mom is the famous Lydia from Lydia’s place (one of the best restaurants in town). He knows food and knows all of the best secret spots to get it! We tasted incredible Caribbean rice & beans with chicken and salad, two different chocolate stops (with one at Bread & Chocolate and we were able to see the kitchen and learn how it was made!) and many other local stops that we would’ve never found on our own.

Victor also answered our MANY questions about local life, culture, politics, food, Costa Rica and more. He was an incredible guide and this tour was the best I’ve ever taken. We felt like we were in an Anthony Bourdain episode - he would’ve loved this tour. We met many local people as well and were able to chat about life in PV.

Please take a tour from Wolaba Walking tours! No matter what you want to do - contact victor and he can make it happen for you. Best guide ever! Thanks for making our trip special. ‬

‪Great tour‬

‪We had a wonderful tour with Victor. He was very knowledgeable and seemed to know everyone in town while walking around with him we felt like we ourselves were part of the community. I would reccomend this tour to anyone that wants authentic Costa Rican food and wants to know more about the history of puerto Viejo.‬

‪Die Tour war absolut überzeugend- unser Guide Viktor ist in Puerto Viejo aufgewachsen und kennt jeden Stein, wir haben sehr viel über die Kultur und Geschichte des Ortes erfahren, an persönlichen Eindrücken und Erzählungen teilhaben dürfen und ganz "nebenbei" die abwechslungsreichen karibische Küche genießen dürfen- und zwar dort, wo man als Tourist so normalerweise nicht hinkommt, absolut großartig! Die Tour hat bei mir einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen und wir haben von Jackfruit- Batido über Rondon, Rice and Beans, eisgekühlte Kokosnussmilch, Agua de Sapo sowie selbstgemachter Schokolade, Kaffee und Gingerdrink bis hin zu exotischen Früchten die vielseitige Küche der Karibik kennen lernen dürfen. Umbeding zu empfehlen!‬

‪Victor is knowledgeable and friendly. The stops for the food tour were perfect examples of small, local eateries and regional dishes. Learning some local history really added to the trip. We sampled entire meals, beverages, chocolates and teas. The food was all prepared by Ticos, some in their own personal kitchen. No fancy tablecloths, no upscale tourist traps. Just real food from fresh ingredients. We found places we would return to for lunch, and places we would skip. It was an excellent experience. Although initially we felt the price was a bit high, in the end we had enough food to fill us for breakfast AND lunch and we learned a lot also We enjoyed our host and our time together today. ‬

‪El tour gastronómico y cultural que hicimos con Victor fue la mejor manera de conocer de verdad Puerto Viejo, su gente, sus costumbres y su comida. Victor nos llevó por los sitios que de verdad son su mundo, y nos mostró la comida que se come aquí y también las bebidas locales, a destacar la sopa Rondón, realmente maravillosa. También visitamos con él la reserva indígena y nos llevó a la catarata. Fue una visita entrañable y muy personal, mucho mejor que con las compañías de tours más grandes. Lo recomiendo‬

Estamos muy felices de saber que ustedes disfrutaron el recorrido con Victor, y que les agradó la experiencia local de probar la comida típica del Caribe en restaurantes donde comemos los locales. Es nuestro objetivo dar a conocer la cultura y que los visitantes realmente comprendan cómo es Puerto Viejo y todas las sorpresas que tiene para ofrecer. ‪Intimate Food and Culture Tours‬

‪We had a wonderful time touring with Victor and Ana in Puerto Viejo. They were both warm and eager to share their knowledge of Costa Rican land and culture. They graciously answered our endless stream of questions. We booked three tours: cooking class, jungle camping, and working farm. Each trip has different points of interest, depending on your comfort with hiking and the outdoors. For any of the hikes, be prepared with appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes as there is uneven, relatively steep ground that can be muddy. The cooking class carries the least amount of hiking (an easy walk though town) and was a wonderful way to learn techniques to make classic Caribbean-influenced dishes. It was relaxing and fun and oh so tasty! The Jungle Camping experience entails a hike up to a camp spot nestled in the hills above Puerto Viejo. We ate a delicious meal by candlelight and took in the view of the Caribbean while listening to the sounds of the jungle around us. We took a short night hike in search of nocturnal life and then retired to our tent. In the morning we woke to the sound of monkeys making their way to the Sea. We walked out to a point to see the sunrise, followed by breakfast. The farm tour entailed a hike into Victor's family-run farm and we tasted some of the fruits that were in season and tried some of his amazing cocoa. Delicious and informative--it was a wonderful way to learn about the agriculture of the area, as well as to see the fauna that thrives there. These tours are for people that are looking for something more than the typical sight-seeing offered in Costa Rica. If you are interested in going beyond the canned tours, this is for you!‬

‪Definitiv ein Höhepunkt unserer Reise durch alle Teile Costa Ricas. Informativ, spannend, überraschend, vielseitig und für alle, die einerseits gerne essen und andererseits das ungewöhnliche suchen. Schade hatten wir nicht Möglichkeit diese Tour in Verbindung mit einer Übernachtung zu geniessen.
Wir, zwei verwöhnte Gaumen und Geniesser, hatten knapp 4 Stunden Spass. Immer wieder gerne wieder...‬

‪Very focused on the local culture and history of the area. Victor went into detail about all the food that we tasted and how it was connected to the history of the area. It is a lot of food so make sure that you are hungry! Victor is friendly, knowledgeable, and a great guide! Highly recommend.
