The beach is very serene, even though there were a lot of people walking around. Be prepared to get your feet/shoes wet if you want to walk any distance on the beach.
Beautiful and relaxing area.

We enjoyed the Beluga Slough Trail, ending at Bishops Beach. The tide was coming in, so we didn’t get to really see tidepools. But the kids had fun trying to dam up the water flowing in.

Beautiful beach. The coolest place to see tide pools. We spent hours walking up and down the beach and looking at all the new discoveries as the tide went out. A highlight of our time in Homer.

A lovely experience on this rock covered beach. We had an overcast day, but the beach was still lovely and we found some pretty cool rocks

A huge beautiful beach at low tide. I visited while my husband was fishing and got a good walk in. Lots of locals & dogs.

Es una playa de arena negra con lindas vistas de las montañas de la costa en frente, y buenos atardeceres.
No hay infraestructura salvo un estacionamiento y baños químicos.

We visited the beach at an extra low tide to see the tide pools. It was not as interesting as tide pools we have seen in Washington Sate at the shore, but we did see the following: one small starfish, many small gray sea anemones, a couple dead crabs, many small muscles, squirts from small clams, a bald eagle and barnacles. This is a typical northwestern beach experience.

My wife and I walked here after a nice dinner and we enjoyed every bit of it. There were several bird species, some interesting finds on the beach and some lovely vegetation. And it's free, although when the center is open I think you can go with a guide. There was plenty of parking for our RV in the evening after the center closed, but I don't know what it's like during the day.

We weren't sure what Bishop's Beach Park would be, but it was worth taking the time to go. We were there at low tide so there were lots of tide pools. Wear waterproof shoes/boots if you want to walk around the pools. There were a lot of birds, including eagles there. It was breezy and cool. I wish we had had more time to explore it.

22 year Homer resident here. It's funny to me how many people visit Homer and just go to the Spit, seemingly thinking it is the whole town. When locals want to walk on the beach, walk the dog, or just sit in their car having lunch, we tend to go here. Low tide is best but it's nice anytime, but it's a beach in Alaska so be prepared for wind, in particular in the afternoon. Can be accessed from the official park with the picnic shelter, or from the a very short trail at the bottom of Main Street.

Is there a better time of year to visit to get the low tide pools?

Every month there are high tide and minus (very low) tides. It's easy to get a tide book, or look on the NOAA tide tables on the internet to find out which days are minus tides days. Those days will also have the very high tides, so always be watchful. June is usually the best weather month.

Hi everyone! My husband and I are looking to do some hiking in Kachemak at the end of June, specifically to Grewingk Glacier Lake. We understand we need to reach the Glacier Split trailhead by water to start our hike, but we were wondering if there were other more economical means of getting to the trailhead besides using the water taxi, which we have heard runs upward of $70/person round-trip. We also plan on getting picked up at Saddle trailhead the following day, since we hear Glacier Split is not a good idea for afternoon access. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Did you know you could fly a float plane into the Grewingk Glacier Lake with a Naturalist and he has stored kayaks there and kayak around the icebergs? Then hike out to meet a water taxi back out. This is seasonal of course when the lake's ice has melted, but a phenominal experience.
