Ce marché aux poissons est des plus intéressants. On peut y voir les pêcheurs vendre à la criée leur pêche du jour. Attention aux horaires des marées. Quelques rares restaurants,

Alkonyat előtt voltunk itt, akkor, amikor a halászok már kikötöttek a zsákmányukkal. A kikötővel szemben áll a Megváltó Krisztus szobor, amely kicsinyített mása a riói szobornak. Mögötte egy keresztény templom van, a tetején egy kék színűre festett hajóval, a hajón egy aranyozott Mária szobor áll. Nagyon érdekes volt látni a piacon a hal-árverést, elképesztő mennyiségű és fajtájú hal, az árverést általában egy kosár, vagy annál nagyobb mennyiségű halra tartják, és pillanatok alatt lezajlik. Persze nemcsak nagyban lehet halat venni, hanem egyesével is. Kihagyhatatlan program mindenkinek.

Il conducente del tuk tuk ci ha voluti portare al mercato del pesce dove si trova il porto con la baia da cui le barche dei pescatori escono in are verso l’una di notte per rientrare al mattino. Diamo rimasti senza fiato: alle 7 di sera 2000 barche allineate con a sinistra le moschee sullo sfondo e a destra una chiesa cristiana . Il canto del Muezzin e le campane della chiesa che suonavano nel tramonto sono indimenticabili...

It is very crowded place through out the day.We can buy fresh fish from here.I was totally a different experience.I really enjoyed it.

This was my second trip to Lighthouse Beach, Kovalam , and I heard about Fishing Village quite by accident. I don’t know how I missed it.
It is very near Lighthouse Beach, south about a mile. Go to the south end of the beach (the end closest to the Lighthouse) and you find a windy, fairly steep paved hill that heads up past the Lighthouse, then at the top of the hill do a 180 and head back down, heading south past the aquarium to the next ‘beach’. Ask along the way for ‘the fishing village’ and you will easily find it. It is a little more than a mile, and it can get quite warm quickly after sunrise.
The Fishing Village is the commercial port for the night fleet that starts binging its catch in with the dawn. I was there a little later, and there was still plenty of action. The motorized boats come to shore and the catch is brought to shore in baskets perched on workers’ heads. Buyers are right there to bid on the prime catches, but in the end everything will be carried away to markets in the nearby cities.
It is vary picturesque and informative. Watched as men fed enormous blocks of ice into a gasoline-powered wood chipper. The shaved ice flew our the other end of the shoot like sawdust, which men an women took turns filling their coolers and other containers.
Definitely worth the trip (I’m sure you can take a Tuk-tuk, but I walked both ways so I don’t have a price, I’ll include a couple of pictures to give you a feel for the beauty and excitement of the place.

Klart. Är man i Sydvästra Indien ska man så klart uppleva en fiskmarknad som denna. Inte alls så romantiskt som okunniga resemakare vill göra det till. Men underbart livligt Jag menar bara att man ska gå till denna marknad med respekt för en yrkesfiskares liv.

Pour bien comprendre l'importance de la pêche sur cette partie de la côte malabar, il faut aller voir grouiller les vendeurs et acheteurs sur ce marché haut en couleurs.
