Such an excellent place to view shows and enjoy a night out.
Rarely ever disappoints and worth the visit to watch the next big show.
Snacks a bit over priced but this does not ruin the experience in an way.
Worth a visit when in Johannesburg

Excellent facilities and good bar/restaurant. The theatre itself can feel quite cramped if fully booked so just bear that in mind when making seat selection upon booking.

I went to see Giselle the ballet on a Sunday afternoon. It was such a treat.
The theatre has ample parking in a secure environment so it makes it a pleasure to go there, my advice is to pay for your parking when you get to a pay station before the show so as to avoid the queues afterwards - and the machines only take cash.
We went to the restaurant within the theatre, called Stages, for lunch before the show and it was very nice, good food, good choices on the menu, and good value for money. Booking is recommended if you are wanting to eat before the show, and I would also say book an early time as although the staff are good and efficient, the food takes quite a while to come out of the kitchen, and you don't want to be rushed.
Just a small complaint about the restaurant - either the coffee grinding machines or the machines that whizz up the drinks are incredibly noisy, intrusively so, and it is very hard to hear over them even if you are not near the bar area.
The theatre itself is like a grand old lady, and it is always a treat to go there.

The Joburg Theatre is one of my favourite places to go to. It's easy to get to, there is plenty of parking space, the productions are excellent and there's a restaurant on the premises. I took some friends from various countries to see the musical Sarafina and they absolutely enjoyed it.

My 11 year old an avid theatre lover and was looking forward to this production being a fan of the movies - Madagascar
What the theatre left out was that it was a show geared mostly for young kids and therefore a very dissatisfied customer left the show after. I still have not been able to find where the theatre recommends the age appropriate

We bought tickets for the Sleeping Beauty ballet at this theater - and it was, like always, a real treat.
Parking is situated in the basement below the theater and you pay a fixed amount before leaving, so make sure you have cash with you as cards aren't accepted.
The theater has various places where you can buy snacks and drinks before, during and after the show.
There's also a small restaurant on-site with basic food; best make a reservation as it can become extremely busy around showtimes.
The productions have never disappointed and is always a treat.
Being at the edge of town in Braamfontein, it's convenient to travel to and from the theater without venturing too far into town.

An excellent show produced by Marc Lottering.
He uses real life scenarios to bring home real family dilemmas.
It is a show worth spending the time and money.
Excellent actors and very good music compositions.
Thank you Marc Lottering

Life is like a play in the theater: it does not matter how long it lasts, but how well it was played ~Seneca
The Joburg Theatre seats 1069 patrons and it is one of the most technical proficient stage in the South. The theatre seating arrangement is one of the best I have been to in a while, no matter where you are seated, you can see the stage clearly, the chairs are very comfy and spacious with ample leg room.
I went to the theatre to see the famous "King Kong: The Legend of a Boxer" which happens to be the true life story of a heavyweight boxer, Ezekiel Dhlamini, a Zulu from Vryheid. He won so many titles locally and internationally but he had a tragic end. The jazz opera King Kong paints a vivid picture of his life, you would feel every pulse, emotion, victory et al. The production was off the hook from the cast, to the stage production and management, to the lighting, to the sound, to the sequence, to the plot, to the music, to the costumes, to the makeup, to the props it was well crafted and detailed.
The famous phrase "Be Smart, Be Wise" kept resonating with me. If you find yourself in Joburg, this is one place to visit and have fun. You won't regret it! Btw, you make new friends when you get there, I made a new friend Mxolisi @wrath_of_x and we are still in touch, cant wait to see him again also I had fun with Jana @siberiajana I can't wait for us to have another theatre experience very soon!
Not every time cinemas to see a movie it is more refreshing when you go to the theatre to see a stageplay so the thespian in me was ignited... kingkong was an amazing piece... A true life story sadly it didn't end well for the world champ. I learnt a lot of lessons... Don't forget to follow @tourwithswagger and @gbogbo_swagger

My friend and I went to watch the annual pantomime at the theatre.
It was a great show, well produced and put together. Costumes were fantastic. The stage props were awesome. The theatre is really neat and clean. The staff are friendly.
The only downfalls are the area it's situated in, the bar staff being very disorganised and the drinks being overpriced. Although there is safe underground parking, leaving the theatre at night is a bit daunting as there are guys partying in the street and getting drunk in their cars just outside the theatre, being a couple of women alone at night makes it quite scary leaving the theatre.
But all in all it was a good experience and we will most likely be back for next year's pantomime.

Which are the best seats in the Mandela theatre?

Hi I don't think there are "bad seats" in the theatre. The visibility and acoustic are great everywhere. If you want to see the actors, being in the first row would be nice. But to appreciate the scene, seating in the first row in the center of the balcony is also great!
