We are inexperienced desert hikers , a senior couple who found the Usery Park trails to be very doable, with well marked trails. We started at the Blevins trail and hiked for about 3 miles, enjoying the arid scenery with many varieties of cacti. There are frequent benches on the trail for those who need to rest. We just happened upon this park and are glad we did!

Great place to stay in your rv. The camp site are clean and neat, they have fire pit and picnic table. The trailer spot is quarter minus and is well maintained. The grounds and trail system is awesome. Clean and neat bathrooms on site. The visitor center is also really neat as well. They ah e some snakes in cages to see on display. We walked to the pond and really enjoyed seeing that. We would be back if we come through the area again.

The park had a nice variety of trails. We started with the Blevins trail which was a great trail for any level hiker. We also did the wind cave trail- which is a personal favorite. The trails were marked well and the restroom areas were clean and well maintained. Will definitely go back.

The Mesa Misfits wanted a day to frolic in nature.
The 9 misfits entered the park and we did the loop. We stopped along each of the pullouts. We saw a bald eagle, archery range, hiking trails, picnic area also a shooting range before you entered the park.
Facilities were clean and taken care of.

I loved staying at this park. We camped here on 2 different occasions while in the Phoenix area. Spots are nice and spacious. Park is clean. There are some hiking trails. The park closes the gate at 8pm. That made me feel safe.

We visited the Usery Mountain Park on a Monday in February and was surprised by the large number of people on the trail. It was about 20 - 25 minutes outside Mesa. We had planned on going to the highly rated Cave of the Wind Trail but the parking lot was packed. With covid still being an issue we drove over to the No-So Trail that connected to the Blevins Trail. We walked about 2 of the 3 miles when my knee went out and I had to limp back to the Jeep. We got back about 2 pm and ate lunch at the picnic tables near the parking lot. It was very busy with most people being bicyclists. I probably would not attempt to visit on the weekend if it was this busy on a Monday.

Took my 9 year old daughter who hates hiking, a labradoodle, and my 32 year old brother who loves a challenging hike. We all had a great time. My daughter, the dog, and I only made it 1.05 miles up, we had about another half mile to go and it was too steep for us. My brother left us and made it all the way to the cave. You could tell by his big smile that he got some great photos and a good hike in. Would definetly try again when my kid is older. The trail was not too busy for a Saturday morning in April. There is not a lot of shade, but plenty of good places to stop and rest on a rock.

Great area to hike Wind Cave and Pass Mountain are my two favorites in the park. Wind Cave is and up and down approximately 2+ miles (can add a little more by hiking past the normal destination to the top). Pass Mountain is a circular trail with a distance of approximately 7.2 miles. Great views of the surrounding area, and definitely bring water plus food for that hike.

There weer many people, bikes, and horses there are on nice Saturday morning. But, even with all the people, the hike was very nice, and many times seemed alone. The trails are well marked and good walk for all levels of expertise. I would highly recommend if a couple hours of exercise is desired.

We did not see any wild horses at Usery. We did see places to ride horses though. There is no wild horse signs anywhere - I am sorry I am not more helpful. Enjoy it is a lovely park

Am I able to access the parking lot at the Wind Cave trailhead before 6am for a sunrise hike on Pass Mountain Trail?

Yes. at gate use a pay envelope, or pass. Suggest parking at Horse Staging area and taking the north end of parking lot trail and do it counter close to avoid sun. We start about 4:30 this time of year. Other option for Pass Mountain is clockwise from Wind Cave in shade until about an hour after sunrise but then you are heading east into the Sun.

Are there wild horses seen at this park? We'd like to see them but are not sure where to go to see them.

I don't think they go that far from the river. Ask the visitor center people.

I'm curious as to what has been done to the particular hive that was identified in the crack between the rocks - fully understanding that hiking has its risks.

Don't know about it and I was just there again last week safely. I would ask the person at the entry gate as they would probably have up-to-date information. Enjoy!

Have park officials eradicated the Africanized killer bees that stung (over 1,000 times) and killed a hiker in May 2016?

My son was there two weeks ago with his wife. I made it up to the rocks and that was the end for me. He said bees (he called them ground bees) were really active. People were staying away from them, but he did mention them as "really" there! Yikes.

It is possible, I suggest you wear boots and be careful where you walk and keep your eyes open. When the sun is out they like the warmth.
Is there a yearly sticker?
Meteormike

Yes, an annual pass to all Maricopa County parks is $85. We bought one because we'll visit more than 14 times this year, so it's cheaper than the $6/vehicle daily fee.
I was told you still have rooms for June 19 through June 21, 2015.
