This a hike that begins at the Bug Springs Trailhead in the Catalina Mountains just outside of Tucson. The trailhead is clearly marked but is on the small side so get there early.
The trail starts out by immediately taking you on switchbacks that will warm you up pretty quickly. You'll continue climbing up the mountain with stunning views along the way, after approximately 2.5 miles you'll reach the first saddle with more great views and some hoodoo's. You'll then see a forested area below you in a canyon which you will descend into. There are steps taking you down and the trail is well-marked. When you get to the bottom of the canyon you'll be amazed by the forest in this un-named canyon. There is an abundance of oak, pine and sycamore trees w/grasses and bushes. I couldn't help but smile at the greenery all around me. Depending on the time of year there is water in the creek beds. Continue through the canyon and climb some steeps and then descend to the trailhead for the Green Mountain Trail. (with more super views) Go back the same way you came for an approximately nine mile hike or have your partner their car there and drive back to the Bug Springs Trailhead. Moderate hike that will give you a workout, be sure to bring plenty of water as there is none on the trail. A remarkable hike that you should do if you're in the area!
