‪Amazing self guided tour experience‬

‪My family and I went for a self guided tour at Hacienda Baru and had a really lovely time. The staff were friendly and helpful, making it easy for us to find everything we needed. The walk itself was lovely and the forest was so beautiful. We saw birds, carpenter ants, lizards, and several agoutis. It was quite warm out, so make sure to dress for the weather. A large part of the path is shaded, but I would still recommend sunscreen. Definitely a lovely way to experience nature, and I am happy to support their conservation efforts.‬

‪Best wildlife viewing at Hacienda Baru‬

‪Our family, including two young children (6 and 8), had a wonderful time on the Chilamate tour led by Pedro. He shared so much information about the forest, including its history, the types of trees and flowers, and the habits of the animals. He helped us spot a mother and baby sloth early on in our tour, along with dozens of birds. The spot at the mangroves was particularly great for bird watching, and we saw two large herons and an ibis there. Our family will never forget when Pedro motioned for us to sit down on the trail and we watched a whole troop of 20+ white nosed coati travel along the forest floor. Then, surprising everyone, a mother and baby peccary came from another direction, almost running into us on the trail. Thank you to Pedro for the fantastic tour and to Hacienda Baru for preserving this wonderful place.‬

‪A great place to see wildlife‬

‪We did the self guided walk which was very good value compared to many other things we visited in Costa Rica. We saw the best sloths of our whole trip, agouti, coati, toucans, a parrot snake chasing and then eating a frog, morphos and a great variety of other butterflies. It was a pleasure to see white faced capuchin monkeys that were behaving normally playing and foraging rather than watching or following humans for food as we saw elsewhere. We did the coati and peccary trails which were easy and well signposted.‬

‪Wonderful bird and animal-watching tour‬

‪My husband and I went on the early morning rain forest bird-watching tour. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica! Our guide, Juanca, was very knowledgeable and great at spotting and explaining birds and other wildlife. We got to see a male manakin showing off, along with other birds and sloths. Overall, highly recommend taking a tour!‬

‪Great birdwatching in a quiet location ‬

‪We did an early morning birdwatching tour, the lowland circuit. We saw plenty of birds and an aguti (small mammal). The highlight was a scarlet macaw that we could observe at leisure with the guide's scope. We were the only visitors in spite of the peak season. The place is beautiful. Highly recommended ‬

‪Great night hike and zipline. I am afraid of heights and had zero issues.‬

‪This is a review of the zipline and the night hike. The zipline was great. I am very afraid of heights but had absolutely no issues on the zips, I think because most of them start from the flat trail or a very low platform just one step up, so you don’t feel high up at the start; and they go over a tree canopy that is so dense it doesn’t seem like you are high up. The focus of the zip lines was definitely learning about the ecology, rather than big thrills. If you want big thrills you might prefer a different zipline experience. But for a basic zipline experience with a focus on ecological education, this was perfect. We loved it. We felt very safe. And you don’t need to do anything to brake: they have a system that stops you on the other side. The night hike was also great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating when my son had to use the bathroom, and he found a lot of cool stuff to show us. Nothing poisonous which I didn’t mind at all, but we did see bats and insects and mammals and birds. Very cool. We also spent a night here and loved that too - I reviewed that separately.‬

‪This is our second visit here in 5 years and loved it just as much the second time. Lovely, knowledgeable guide and wonderful, sage experience for our children (9 & 11). Highly recommend.‬

‪GREAT PLACE! $15 usd is great... we saw a huge famliy of Capuchin Monkeys (white face), a wild pig, a ton of smaller birds, a sloth and others. VERY MUDDY during the wet season but with preparation it's doable. We loved this place. got some amazing pictures.‬

‪Best hidden nature park on the Pacific Coast!‬

‪This little place has one of the best nature treks I've ever been on in Costa Rica. In a couple hours on the two trails (one more forested, one more open), my wife and I lost count of the wildlife we saw, many of which we saw no where else (and we visited Manuel Antonio and Corcovado on this trip). Capuchins, coatimundis, a peccarie, pizotes, agoutis, coatis, hawks, stunning butterflies, giant lizards, not to mention gorgeous fauna everywhere. Just a wonderfully hidden gem of a nature park. ‬
