‪A big fan of old European castles I loved this place. Being close to Dublin was an added benefit. Please consider a visit here. Well worth the trip! ‬

‪Swords Castle is a work in progress‬

‪It appears the town is doing its best to upgrade and clean up this area attraction. There is not too much to see at this time other than the walls and a few rooms, as some areas are closed off for safety reasons I assume. Once completed and it will be a nice historical sight for Swords to trumpet.‬

‪This castle stands stately on the edge of town. There is a car park directly across the street from the castle. I do believe that it is free to park there.
There is no charge to explore the grounds of the castle. There is one tower at the end where one can enter and walk to the top floor. There is also a rampart that allows one to walk along the upper edge of the wall.
There is a chapel on the grounds, but it was not open for entry when we visited.
There really isn't a lot to see here, but it is a pleasant spot to walk around.
On the road adjacent to the entrance, there is a small ice cream shop that makes a delicious 99 cone.‬

Стены окружают большую пятиугольную обнесенную стеной территорию площадью почти 6000 м² (1,5 акра) с башней на севере, вероятно, резиденцией констебля, и впечатляющим комплексом ворот на юге. В замке находились апартаменты архиепископа, апартаменты для рыцарей и банкетный зал. Надзиратель мог занимать помещения слева от ворот, а справа находилась комната дворника с комнатой священника над головой. Прилегающая часовня, построенная в конце 13 века, вероятно, использовалась как личная молельня архиепископа. Другие постройки, зарегистрированные для инквизиции в 1326 году, теперь исчезли, в том числе большой зал на восточной стороне ограды.‬

‪Great spot, free entry ‬

‪Great spot to visit when in swords, especially with the walk around the top of the castle walls. Great that's its free and then you can walk in the little park beside it and get a pastry in the bakery on the corner! ‬

‪Stumbled upon the absolute gem of a place. The gentleman at the tourist office was so friendly. Was there with my husband and 14 year old son and we loved it. Spotlessly clean and the little church is just stunning. It’s free and we’ll worth a visit.‬

‪1000 years of architectural history...‬

‪Ruined by an industrial walk way around the internal walls signed off by the Office of Public Works and LCC costing a small fortune of tax payers money(millions) and installed by engineers who got the measurements wrong and is only accessible on half the internal wall.(they fecked up) Brown envelopes no doubt involved ! This is a crying shame and has ruined the appearance and this magnificent Palace where the Bishop of Dublin resided many moons ago. Should be removed , money repaid, metal walk way removed and a wooden structure should be installed in its place...this attempt to marry the old with the new does not work at all!

‪Ремонт был начат в 2008 году, и с тех пор на руинах замковой часовни была построена новая крыша.
Недавно отреставрированный замок использовался в качестве места для съемок телесериала «Тюдоров» весной 2010 года, в котором родился Джастин Рис Мейерс, родившийся в Дублине, и теперь снова стоит на страже над постоянно растущим городом Мечей, и, надеюсь, будет делать это в течение многих лет.‬

‪Swords Castle‬

‪Visited today but closed due to Covid 19 so only got into the grounds. The castle dates back to the 13th century. It is a work in progress but has been open to the public since 2015 and admission is FREE. Fingal CC have done a marvellous job here and I will be back when it reopens to get a look inside‬
