Fribourg is a gem of an old town in Switzerland. It is fun walking through the little streets, up and down. You can also access the fortresses and the towers on the hills above the river Saane.

When thinking of Fribourg to most people will come to mind an attractive historic town above a river. That there is also modern quarter one will see in the triangle formed by the Railway Station, by the unusual and very modern Theatre Equilibre and the Cantonal Bank (by architect Mario Botta) with in the middle of it one of Switzerland's largest downtown shopping malls: The 'Fribourg Centre', which opened in 2003.
At its place once stood the Hotel Terminus from 1895. Now it is a large multifunctional structure, built by the Pension Fund of the Canton of Zurich. Its interior design comes from the award-winning architectural firm Chapman Taylor from London. On 4 floors there is space for offices, apartments, a cinema complex and 20'000 square meters is given to shops. There is also underground parking on two floors.

This medieval city is very interesting. It still has the old buildings and church perfectly intact and parts of the walls left. You can access it by a long staircase or by driving. There are lots of small restaurants in the old town and people live in there also. You should ride the funicular which goes from the bottom (where the old town is) to the top (and back down if you want). There is a nice park at the edge of the old town.

Much underrated, this beautiful city deserves a visit by anyone who wants to cherish the medieval old town, the beautiful walks along the river and the wonderful countryside surrounding the city. Mine was a short stay, but it deserves to be discovered.

Eine herrliche Altstadt. In jedem Ecken findet man ein tolles Fotosujet. Die Stadt verdient es ein verlängertes Wochenende damit zu verbinden. Man muss gut zu Fuß sein, da es recht Höhenunterschiede zu bewältigen hat

Le centre de Fribourg est animé et rempli de boutiques intéressantes, le tout concentré dans des rues essentiellement piétonnes très agréables.

Bel centro medievale, ma non paragonabile nè a quello di Berna nè a quello della omonima citta del sud della Germania. Imperdibile la cattedrale con il suo magnifico portale e bella la parte bassa con il ponte di legno.

Die Altstadt am Fluss ist besonders süss. Generell hat Fribourg viele alte Häuser bewahrt, was der Stadt ihren Charme verleiht. Nette Leute sind es, und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten hat es auch genügend. Gerne wieder...

Rien d'extraordinaire mais si comme moi et la majorité des hommes le shopping vous insupporte il y a de petits havres de paix nommés bistrots ou boire un apéro en attendant que madame fasse ses découvertes

Pleasant, if hilly, walk through the old town, taking in the Bern bridge, river and old buildings. Top it off (and save the uphill) by using the funicular on the way back to the centre.
