The most unfriendly place I have ever visited.
Incident 1:A relative was nearly run over and sworn at by what we assumed was a local resident in Wells Coop car park.
Incident 2:I was nearly run over in Wells coop the next day.
Incident 3: On the same day as incident 2, in the coop car park around 7pm in the evening. A man bashed on my car window, took photos of my car and shouted abusively at me for briefly reversing into a disabled bay while another family member went in to get some rice as we were late cooking dinner for my 92 year old, disabled grandmother and had forgotten rice. Apparently me briefly stopping in this bay made me a disgrace to human king amongst other names that he humiliatingly shouted at me. Whilst stood over me aggressively. He then chased me across the car park and took more photos of me threatening to post them on social media.
Incident 4: I was out walking the 3 dogs for our families and to avoid another walker and her dogs near our holiday cottage I cut across a small field and our garden. She started shouting abusively at me telling me it wasn’t a footpath and began to chase after me.
I am unlikely to visit Wells any time soon or possibly never again.

We arrived hoping for a couple of hours to explore. Unfortunately, we chose a car park on the seafront which signalled there were spaces, but upon entering found none. This was easy to determine once in since every space, or lack of, was visible. Deciding to leave after barely 5 minutes, we were forced to pay £5 to exit!
We left feeling utterly ripped off, never to return. There are lovely beaches on the coast where car parking is free or at least cheaper so we definitely won't be returning.

Lovely and quaint Norfolk seaside small town.
Great for dog walking and walking in general, especially to the sandy well kept beach with lovely beach huts.
We were lucky enough to see a Seal basking on the beach and another one in the water.
1 star knocked off due to some dog walkers not clearing up after their pets….

Always a pleasure walking along this beach with the dogs. It’s always very clean and (off season) is always quiet. You do need to be careful not to get cut off by a rising tide if walking out to the sea near the inlet but a check of tide times will avoid that.

The beach at Wells is just perfect. It white sandy beach is clean and shell free. When the thee is out you can wall out about a mile. It stretches out for miles up past Holkham and beyond. The pine forest along the coast is just wonderful. You get the best of both world's. Its our go to for a home 6 mile circular hike.

We have been twice this year staying at Burnham on sea and Fleggbugg just outside Cromer - as we have 4 dogs and enjoy a safe stroll Wells offers this along it's causeway from the lifeboat station into town having a top and bottom path - the lower one is a tarmack good for wheelchairs and motorscooters with various benches along to stop and look out on the bay. You cannot let dogs off lead and no dogs at the beach at the life boat station - however the large carpark with toilets and 2 cafes does have access at the far left of the lifeboat which is marked as a dogs area - we didn't venture down to the sand as only wanted to walk the causeway - despite both visits children were in school it was busy in Wells but adequate parking in town - just outside and again the lifeboat station which also has a bus from town if you don't fancy the walk to and from. It's a lovely place - clean and lovely stroll. It's always sad to leave it behind but we will be back next year!

The beach cafe near the beach charged 40p extra for oatmilk with a hot drink, this is not acceptable for having dietary requirements beyond your control and I believe it's discriminating

What a stunning beach. Huge sand reach at low tide backed by beach huts and pine trees. Can imagine the car park is very busy at height of summer but was fine today on a cooler Sunday. Even managed to see a couple of seals. Photos are better than words.

Such a beautiful beach. But I wonder why they bother with all the signs saying no dogs. There’s no one around to enforce the ban so everyone ignores it. Dogs everywhere. I love dogs so I don’t see the need for the ban on such a huge beach (when the tide is out). Car park is not cheap and I was very amused to see that there’s a Joules shop as well as a beach cafe, but that’s north Norfolk for you

What an amazing beach. Great for dogs but also part of the beach is dog free. Very clean. Loads of space even in august. Lovely soft sand. Low tide leaves a great spance of beach. Toilets available in the car park. A cafe supplies lovely sausage rolls and pasties, together with drinks and ice creams.

Yes. The car park is about 50 yards from the beach.

Is the sea good for swimming or is it too far out over wet sand?

We have swum regularly here, check the tide times first to avoid a long walk. We love to swim on the incoming tide as when the sea comes back over the hot sand the water is lovely and warm.

There are lots of pubs along the road either side of Wells that serve Fish and Chips to a high standard; certainly no need to go all the way to Cromer. We were particularly impressed with the Duck Inn but also had great meals at other pubs around Wells.
The portion sizes at Frenchies were massive and there wasn't much of a queue in March. I suspect queues will be longer in the summer.

No it doesn’t come right in there is still plenty of beach even at high tide
You would have to check high tide times in June to know when Hugh tide is.

£10 for the beach car park. £5/6 for the car park in Wells. £2 per adult for the bus (used to be a train) to take you from wells to the beach if you do park in the cheaper car park

Yes there is a chance to swim or to dip your toes in the warm shallow pools. Please be aware of the safety notices as the tides can be strong.

North Norfolk is dog friendly all year round. Wells is no different and have a dog friendly cafe at the beach.

Holkham Hall is still open until 31 October and our other attractions too. Check out our website for details. There's also quite a fewcother tourist attractions open still too. 'Visit Norfolk' is a good research website.
