This is currently closed - due to Covid - but if you park in the spaces provided you can see most of the ruined building anyway. And it truth, nice though it was to see, I wouldn't pay much of an entrance fee as I don't think the notice boards and the like would really add much to this. There is apparently some stonework worth seeing inside, but, I can live without that!
It is set in a nice spot of countryside, just off a main road, so if you are driving by it is worth a small detour to see - and have a picnic maybe, but not more than that.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are sorry that the abbey is currently closed. We’re working hard to gradually reopen the places you love, while making sure the experience is safe for everyone.
We hope that you can return to Glenluce Abbey when it reopens and enjoy the on-site museum and see the south transept which is a well-preserved fragment of 13th-Century Cistercian architecture.

This is a medieval gem, and a surprising treat. There are some wonderful carvings in the cloister and chapter house, including lots of green men. The partially recreated cloister gives a good impression of how this part of the abbey might have looked in its heyday, and the excellent interpretation panels around the site help explain the rest.
It's definitely worth going on the days when the museum is open as there are some fascinating artefacts in there and it helps to appreciate the whole site. The displays are a bit dated in there, but can be excused as it's quite charming in its way, though an update would be great in future. There was a warm and helpful welcome to the museum and site, perhaps a more obvious sign to lead you in there from the car park would help, but you'll find it on the right as you walk up the path. Have a check on their website for the days when the museum part is open - at the time of writing it's only Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. When the museum is closed so is the spectacular Chapter House in the abbey.
Aside from the wonderful stone carvings in the chapter house, the acoustics are magnificent with a great echo. Next time I go, I'll take a softer pipe and play a few tunes in there to see how it sounds.
Medieval monasteries as good as this are few and far between in Scotland and it's well worth the trip out to see this one.

This is an accessible ruin which is so peaceful to visit. There is seating around about and picnic areas. The chapter house has the most wonderful accoustics. Chapter house only open on Sunday, Monday and tuesdays though the rest of the abbey is open all week. The visitors centre has an exhibition about the life of the abbey

We found this lovely Abby just off the A75 to Stranraer. There’s enough of it left to allow your imagination to create the rest with a wee bit of a nudge from the helpful info plaques around the site.
It must have been quite a hive of activity with a beautiful church at it’s height.
A great wee detour in a rainy day - worth a visit.

In Winter, when we were there, the Abbey is deserted and access was free. The scenery was great with sunshine and sheep around the Abbey. Plaques tell you most of what there is to know about monastic life and the Abbey history. After visiting the Abbey you may as well pop into the village of Glenluce for tea or coffee.

A very quiet and peaceful location. Founded by Lord of Galloway about 1192 for a community of Cistercian Monks. The Abbey ruins are interesting to walk around and the grounds are very well kept. There is a small exhibition including artefacts in the museum building. The Chapter House with its "acoustics", stone benches, Abbot's elaborate carved Seat, decorated doorway, together with original floor tiles around the central pillar complete with 'paw' and 'finger' prints - are all not to be missed. Dogs on lead welcomed.

We arrived close to closing time , to find no one to take our entrance fee . None of the periphery items were , therefore , open .
Interesting , but not unusual , and small . In a peaceful setting , and semi surrounded by farm animals - Jacob's sheep ,and a brown Belted Galloway cow , to add interest .
Excellent car parking , and not too far from the main road .

Like most abbeys it is situated in a lovely location and nice to wander around. Not a lot to see within the abbey grounds but our visit was curtailed by very heavy rain. Nice villages nearby.

We visited on a warm summer day to find the chapter house and museum shut. There was no one to pay the admittance fee too so we wandered around the ruins.
There are lots of information panels and as we were the only visitors it was very peaceful.
The car park is quite big but there no toilets on site.

Unfortunately the visitor centre was closed when we went. We were able to go into the grounds of the abbey however. It would have been magnificent in its day.
