Interesting historic information about the naval activities on the Great Lakes during the 1812 war. There are remains of the British ship Nancy which was sunk by the Americans. However after this the British captured two amerikan ships and made them theirs. This was an important part of getting control of he lakes.

Really enjoyed the 11 minute movie regarding the big ship battle in this area during the war of 1812 and the history boards in theater bldg. Also liked the museum bldg and the main office which was a great source of information like a tourist office for Wasaga Beach.

The staff were exceptional in their demeanor, explanations and engaging with the public. The museum was beautifully laid out and organized and the property very attractive. Excellent views from the lighthouse.

My son and I had the best adventure here! We enjoyed all the artifacts and displays sent you back in time! The hands on diaplays and the interactive machines were exactly what a 4 year old wanted! The tour guide was straight out of the 1800s and she was very well informed. This was all round an amazing little trip. If you are in the beach i would highly recommend checking this little gem out.

Visiting Nancy island is free of charge but there's box for donations. There' s not really much to see, you can climb to light house replica but you can't go out on the top and windows are so dirty you don't see outside.

Interesting history and information. Historical information and pictures as well as details about how Nancy Island came to be an island.

Nancy island historic site and museum is a great place to go in Wasaga Beach on those non beach days with your family .
Staff are happy and friendly. Not a huge museum and site but enough to spend an hour or two.
Cool history on the hms Nancy and the war of 1812.
Lighthouse was cool to see too. Views from the island looking out onto the nottawasaga river were nice too. Cool little history of the first transatlantic flight from mainland Canada to England took off from Wasaga Beach!

Nancy Island is a lovely little historic site found right in the heart of Wasaga (a few minutes walk from the beach!). There is not set admission fee to visit the island, but donations are much appreciated. The staff here were wonderful, dressed in the clothing of 1812, the showed us around the grounds and taught us about the battle that was fought on these shores, and the sailing vessel that was discovered below (and what later became) Nancy Island. We then got to see parts of that very ship raised from below the lake. It was a fascinating bit of history and a fun break from the heat of the beach. I was especially impressed by the focus they have put on First Nations history in this Site - something we don't see often enough. Overall, this was a great outing for an hour or two when you're in the area.

A very informative visit with artifacts and names with dates to events related to the war of 1812. Men who fought in a battle that occurred on the ground upon which the museum stands. Admission is by donation.

Nancy Island is a great place to learn about history in a very didactic way. Everyone's weardrobe and knowledge put us back in time. We had fun and learned at the same time.

I had been to Wasaga Beach a few years ago but had not visited that site. It is certainly worth the visit if you are in the area. Most people seem to only see Wasaga Beach as a beach resort area. By visiting this historic site, right in the center of Wasaga Beach, I discovered its historic value and learned about events that happened right here during the War of 1812 between Canada and the "newborn" USA - specifically here, a battle between American schooners and a British ship, whose remains are in the museum. About an hour is sufficient for the visit if you dont watch the film. There are dressed-up historical characters in the museum to help you understand the site and its events of the 19th century. The park has its own website where you will get more details.
