‪We visited the cave after seeing the film Thirteen Lives. We enjoyed the visit, however the only disappointment was the lack of English translation in the cave and exhibits.

With the interest in the cave following the rescue and the huge rescue effort by English speaking divers, I would have expected there to at least be some English translation of the story told in the exhibit itself.

Hopefully this will be rectified at some point. If you’ve seen the film and heard the story it’s good to see.

‪We purposely visited Tham Luang Cave to show our 11 year old Granddaughter, on her first international trip, to show her something she had seen on the news as the rescue unfolded last year, to make world events real. From Chiang Rai we engaged a car and driver.
The site is now ready for handling tourists and you get driven in trolley busses from the main road to the cave site. (Photos included). The environment is beautiful. There are display signs showing a cave cross-section and how far in the boys were.
You can stand at the cave entrance and look into it. The Exhibition Centre nearby displays large boards describing the day-by-day progress of the rescue (photos included). Date on one side, you spin the board to the opposite side to see photos of the operation. There are images of the rescue team. One of the rescue slings (sked) that each boy was taken out in is on display.
There is a big bronze statue of the Thai diver who lost his life and a shrine nearby. Many people were there, the majority seemed to be Thai, and they were there in devotion and prayer, bring offerings to the shrine, in thanks for the success of the rescue. It was a very humbling sight to see people doing this. They take nothing for granted and actually show their gratitude.
The visit was excellent. It brings home the marvel of the rescue. It truly was an incredible feat. We are home now in Australia and have bought the book "Against All Odds" by two Australian divers, Craig Challen and Richard Harris. I am glad we visited and that our Granddaughter saw this place. P.S. There was no charge for anything at this site!‬

‪We visited the cave first in July 2019 and you had to walk from the car park only to find that you could only see limited things from a distance from the cave.
Now they have a fleet of vehicles running quite regularly up to the cave and they run guided tours into the cave
A lot has been done in the last 6 months to make it a better experience for tourists‬

‪We visited this heartfelt monumental place that was put together in the last year to commerate the 13 soccer boys and their coach that were trapped in the cave. We visited first the museum , the grounds but unfortunately it was late afternoon and we were unable to go near the cave itself.‬

‪The Tham Khao Luang Cave has now been transformed to a popular tourist destination in memory of the 2018 Cave Rescue of the 12 members of a local football team and their coach.

If you are getting there by car, there are many parking spots available. If you park at the lower level, you will have to take one of the many songthaews up to the top. Your other option is to drive up yourself to save some money.

There are now dozens of local businesses set up selling food and clothing items for the people visiting the cave.

You will have to do some walking from the parking area to the cave so bring comfortable shoes.

When you get there, you can see the entrance to the cave, which is blocked off to enter. You will also see maps of the rescue as well as photos. What stood out for me was the statue in memory of Sam, a former Thai Navy SEAL who died during the rescue.

‪Tham Luang cave would normally be yet another cave. After the football team's rescue being telecast around the world, it has become a place where tourists visit in buses, vendors line the muddy road, and most importantly, where people come pay tribute to the rescue efforts by ten thousand for the lives of thirteen. And one perished a Hero in the late Honourable Saman Kunan.

Despite the muddy and uneven path up to the former staging area for rescue, you can see innumerous people who aren in wheelchairs making their journey. People limping up the hill clutching a few flowers and incense to offer their prayers.

It is really touching. I can still vaguely hear the calls of mothers for their children.‬

‪I really enjoyed this cave. At the entrance the stairway is lined with gold Buddha's. There were many statues of smaller gold Buddha's displayed in many areas once inside the cave. We found it plenty light enough with some power throughout and using a torch provided by our guide Jermsak. Monks often come here to meditate as well as spend the nights and have an area for sleeping. The cave is colourful especially where there is crystallization of the rock.

Just before arriving at the cave there is a Temple we stopped at with big white Buddha
(see photos)

We think it is a worthwhile visit to Tham Khao Luang Cave. We were on private tour with one other couple.‬

‪These caves supposedly run for over kilometers, but only the first 500 meters or so can be explored. Whilst the caves are probably quite nice the problem is that there is no electricity to see anything. You miss out all the details of the ceiling because there is not enough power in the torch that you can rent at the entrance. Furthermore whilst close to the entrance there is a raised walkway after a couple of hundred meters you walk in thick mud, in the dark... Unless you are a real fan of caves...‬

‪If you are interested in caves, this can be worth the trip, although bear in mind that it can be flooded for a large part of the year. Bring your own flashlight(s). Serious spelunkers may be disappointed. Nice picnic area as part of the park. "Tham" (tom) means cave in Thai, so the name is redundant.‬
