‪Peace, great food and tranquilty‬
مارس 2021
‪First and foremost you do not have to be a Buddhist to enjoy a stay here - there are few places better than this venue for a relaxing stay – over weekends they have interesting and informative scheduled Retreats which however you are not obliged to attend - we arrived Sunday for an excellent lunch and stayed two nights – the accommodation ranges from very comfortable chalets overlooking a peaceful valley down to basic rooms in the Quarters – food is lacto- ovo vegetarian which includes milk yogurt, cheese and eggs – healthy and far from boring – the food is renowned and there are three cookbooks available to take away and try the recipes at home – we did not miss meat and booze and resolved to have two days a week following these principles which so far is working well and we feel much better for making this decision – again please remember this is not a religious experience but rather an opportunity to relax and enjoy the fresh air, pleasant walks and connect with yourself if only for a short time forgetting the strife and stress of everyday life.‬

‪Such a peaceful, beautiful place. Being out in nature and listening to the trees and wind chimes were my favorite sounds. We laid on lilo’s in the dam , so be sure to take yours. Delicious meals, yoga, meditation photography and walks were so enjoyable. I will definitely be back. Everyone so friendly and helpful.‬

‪Worth The Trip‬
مارس 2020
‪Having heard a lot about this place we deciced to give it a try whilst in KZN.
It turned out to a most wonderful experience and we were just so sorry that we could not stay longer.
It is not necessary to be a Buddhist to stay there and everyone is welcome.
A very relaxing place with healthy vegetarian meals and many optional ativities such as Yoga, meditation and forest walks.
So it was definitely worth the trip.‬

‪The Centre is heaven on earth with scrumptious meals prepared and served by angels.
Excellent place to rejuvenate the spirit and be at peace with oneself and the world. The flora including indigenous trees of over 100 years old is fascinating.
The memory reminds me to return there soon.‬

‪One of the best places in the world to catch your breath‬

‪I have been going to the BRC for years now and I have always come away feeling spacious, nurtured, delighted and deeply connected.
I have been with friends and on my own, have participated in retreats and done self retreats. I have loved every visit.
It really feels like a piece of heaven. The attention to detail in everything and the little touches are simply magnificent.
The food is totally delicious and I always feel completely nourished as all meals are prepared, beautiful presented with love and care and never fail to charm my taste buds!
The gardens, the labyrinth and the walks are so restorative with beautiful birdsong all around. I also love all the little contemplation spots with the magical chimes softly tinkling in the background.
I discovered on this last visit, much to my amazement and delight that the meditation hall is situated on the South East Earth Chakra. (According to ancient spiritual lore the earth has four significant spiritual locations. The other 3 are Stone Henge, Mr Abu and the Great Pyramid of Giza!) Fancy that!
I try and go yearly to the BRC. It always fills my well.‬

‪Spa for the Psyche‬

‪It would be in everyone’s best interests if you do not read this review. Firstly, I should warn that I am about to gush. Secondly, part of me wants to keep the BRC as my own special secret. But that would be selfish. Thirdly, please stop reading if you are looking for a place with a bar or television set.

In short, the BRC does something for my soul that no other destination has ever done for me. The first time I was there, 30 years ago, I heard the little voice of my Self for the first time. I visited a few times back when I still lived in Johannesburg, but now, I had not visited again for so many years that I wasn’t sure if the place would weave its magic spell again.

It did, and I am in love with the place all over again. It’s something about that combination of silence, meditation, fresh air, wholesome food, and spiritual thoughts.

Back in the old days, I used to love visiting mid-week, when there was no organized Retreat scheduled. I’d still like to do that again; I liked that the only scheduled events of the day were three meals and four sessions of Meditation.

This time, I was there for an organized Retreat. What had lured me back to the BRC was a course called “An Introduction to Chi Kung” facilitated by Paul Dorrian, from the Lin Li School of Tai Chi in Pietermaritzburg.

The Retreat itself was informative, and I enjoyed Sensei Paul’s sense of humour. I am reviewing the place rather than his Retreat, however, so I shall begin by singling out the wonderful array of colourful and tasty vegetarian food.

The first thing many people ask me about is the Silence during breakfast. Some are under the impression that all meals are taken in Silence. This may be so during Retreats that describe themselves as observing “Noble Silence” throughout. Most Retreats, however, maintain this Silence only from after Supper until after Breakfast. I remember finding this a bit awkward during my earlier visits, but now it felt as natural as goat’s cheese. It is quite liberating to concentrate on your food and not feel obliged to make idle conversation. It frees up energy to look deeper into the Self.

What adds to the healing effect of the Centre is the overall non-judgemental atmosphere. While Retreatants are asked to avoid mind-altering substances, gossip, and radios during their stay, one never feels expectation to join in certain activities or a sense of oppressive rules. People from all religious persuasions are welcome, and those who desire Meditation instruction are invited to request it. The Staff are all friendly and warm.

On the Sunday, I paid my deposit to join another Chi Gong weekend next year.

Of course, the city stress kicks in soon enough again after the Retreat, and the feeling of tranquillity fades a bit. But I carry in a small corner of my heart the peace I find sitting in the Meditation Hall. And I am calmer.

This is the kind of weekend you use to gain something real, a clearer understanding of who you are. It’s a getaway with meaning.

The BRC is my Spiritual Home. I cannot recommend it highly enough.‬
