The grandiose Palace Tomb's five-story facade dates from the 2nd-century AD. Rainwater was probably held in the pool to the north of the podium. The tomb was likely used for feasting and banquets. It's a striking sight. It's one of four structures in the Royal Tombs location.

Impressive facade, different from the others in the site, being in "landscape" format. Not very well preserved, unfortunately. Nothing to see inside.

Petra never ceases to amaze. When the visitor has finished crossing the Siq and, having experienced everything along its walls, walks through the new forms of the "Royal Tombs" on the east wall, he might think that with the Silk Tomb he has exhausted that real museum of rock architecture that is the city. And he would be wrong, because proceeding further with the Palace Tomb - let alone the others - would experience something he hasn't seen here before.
Just as the "Urn Tomb" develops unusually in height, so the Palace Tomb develops unusually in width, measuring 49 meters in that dimension. In this large space, the decorative fervor of the builders was able to indulge, devising a profusion of even disordered architectural elements, overall, in my opinion, as fascinating as those of perfect regularity. Such are the four doors that open on the ground floor of the façade, of unequal width, height and distance between them; or the columns on the first floor, also unequally spaced (but in this unequal spacing one can nevertheless perceive some rules of symmetry, and of a connection with the lower order); or finally the pediments of the four doors, with both straight and curved sides, in accordance with a motif widespread in the Roman world and which was then taken up again in the late Italian Renaissance.
Personally I find this facade one of the most fascinating in Petra.
