We were a group of ten - ages 75 to 12 - visiting Hampi in March. It was hot so plan to start early and perhaps do two sessions - resting in the hotel in the afternoon. We stayed at Mallige - which was very good. Kids enjoyed the pool :) Best was our guide Me Bhanu Prakash (+91 94494 09070) - kept group to 10 engaged, very easygoing, patiently answering all our questions and offered multiple suggestions based on our interests. A highlight was the lovely photos he took and little view points that we might have ordinarily missed. The monuments themselves were absolutely amazing. Don't miss the riverside walk and sunset at Hemkunta hill.

Raj, our guide’s quiet enthusiasm coupled with his knowledge of the Hampi site, dates of events, interest, enthusiasm, and ability to engage us with the history of the Vijayanagara Empire, helped us visualize the grandeur of Hampi. Our booked day was so enjoyable we went for a further morning visit to sites along the river. He was also sensitive to our need of having the explanation/narrative in a way we were comfortable with and tour the way we wanted it, spending enough time on things that particularly interested us during our site visits at Hampi.

It’s my 3rd time going to Hampi, however, this time was special because I was going with my wife, my parents and brother.
I wanted to ensure my family has a good experience, therefore, hired a guide. This was my first time having a guide in Hampi.
After searching a bit, came across contact of Mr. Manjunath. I was a bit sceptical about his competence as he was not a government approved guide, still went ahead with him because he came through a reference from a highly rated guide on Tripadvisor Mr. Ravi.
To my surprise, Mr. Manjunath was a very fine guide. He has a deep knowledge on Indian history, especially Hampi and Karnataka region history. His story telling is completely evidence driven, and to top it all he is a very passionate human. He took us around Hampi from 9 am to 6 pm with the same enthusiasm for the entire day!
Overall, Hampi is worth a visit without a question. And you can enhance your experience if you have Mr. Manjunath with you - +91 94805 54908, +91 90195 88055.

Guide Raja vali's (8073874131)explanation of imaginary creature- yali and gayali, sculpted at various places in monuments and few more multiple images in single carving was very impressive
Explanation of complete Ranayana sculpted on the walls of hazara Rama temple was awesome.

This is a must-visit site, with amazing sculptures and temples. What I want to write here about is the importance of having a knowledgeable guide, speaking the preferred language (English in our case). Group of monuments in Hampi as an UNESCO world heritage site. If you are planning a trip to hampi; you can broadly divide the places to visit into two areas: (a) royal enclosure and monuments; (b) temples remains and statues.
The most important places to visit are: (a) Virupaksha temple, (b) Vittala temple, (c) Hemkuta hill, (d) Anjanadri hill - Birth place of Lord hanuman, (e) Royal enclosure, with lotus palace and queen's bath, (f) Hazara rama temple.
Need a minimum of 4 days, 3 nights to explore the place. Make sure you have a good guide, to make sense of things. We were supported by Mr. Hanumantha Reddy who is an excellent guide.

Hampi has great monuments from our great history. Enjoyed seeing and understanding history and beauty. Our guide Mr Bhau Prakash was super . He made our visit more worth. Without him it would not have been possible. Very learned and smart guide.

With regards to the recent reports on the blanket ban on photography, are you not even allowed to carry cameras into the area anymore? Or is it just inside the specific monuments?

When I go in there is no kind of instruction for photography but in recent days the drone photography is strictly prohibited in ASI monuments and surroundings.

I did not see any indication they would not be allowed, nor any mechanism to prevent their admission. That said, it is always possible that bystanders, other visitors, or even temple officials might raise some objection. I would be very sad to see such happen, and emphasize that I saw no evidence of such. I do wish you all the best and do hope you will be able to visit these beautiful and historic locations.
Will I get guide at these attractions? or do I need to check at Hotel at Hospet? I will be staying at Hospet and will be doing day visit to Hampi.
And what will be guide charges per day?

Hi, There will be government authorized guides in Hampi. The chanrges will be around 1500 to 2000 for all the monuments and tourist spots.

Hosepet is the nearest town from hampi (almost 10kms), where you can get good stay with good facilities/eateries shops nearby as well. Regular public transport as well as cab hire available from there.
You can consider kamalapur as well.

How many days does it take to visit all the monuments in Hampi

If you are a history buff and just love architecture, then 4-5 days can be spent very comfortably to see all the monuments. But if you are a lover of photography then 3 days can be spent comfortably to cover all scenic spots. Mostly, people spend maximum 4 days to cover all key monuments.
what are cab charges for sight seeing
To see all the architectural sites, it costed me ₹1000 for auto rickshaw. From 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Details:
Hired it near the River at 10:00 AM. Took me to almost all the sites and dropped me at Hampi bazaar for shopping around 5:00 PM. The only place missed was Bheema’s gare. We had to rush back because the last ferry to other side of the river is at 5:30 PM.
NOTE: These auto rickshaw drivers are not allowed to enter the monuments. They explain you the history from outside- before you enter the place. They are not guides. They are just locals who know the history half way through.
So if you wanna understand the history of each and everything in Hampi - you gotta hire a guide.

There is an entry ticket of Rs.10/- which is valid for Vitthala temple, Lotus mahal & elephant stables and Zenana. Just ensure that you retain your ticket from wherever you buy it first and it can be used for the other sites too. But if you wish to visit the Archaeological museum then you will have to pay additional Rs.5/-
