‪Priests make you take part in a religious ceremony, then insist that you donate at least $50 to a so-called charity, officially run by the government. If you donate less, they become aggressive. A real tourist trap masquerading as a place of worship. What a pity because as a tourist you will leave Pushkar with a bad image and you wont recommend this place.‬

‪Fake priests cleverly trick people into "ceremonies" at the lake, with the help of other "random" passers-by, who give people flowers to throw into the holy lake. Once you've been marked with one of these flowers, you'll be ambushed by passers-by who "accidentally" meet you at the lake. They offer you a place at the lake in a nice way. You go there unsuspectingly and sit down with them. Suddenly the person reveals that he is a priest and starts a kind of "ceremony" with you. In order not to be rude, you take part in the ceremony. But suddenly the words "voluntary donation" are mentioned. Now you have a choice: get up and leave immediately and keep your money (you might attract the anger of the priest and other people present, but if you can handle it, then get out!!) or you give in, pay your empty change and only then make your escape.

The lake might be beautiful to look at. But if you get ripped off before you have a chance to look around, you'll lose any desire to stay there any longer!‬

‪Pushkar Lake is a sacred lake of the Hindus. It is believed that a dip in the sacred lake may lead to cleanse the sins and cure skin diseases. Pushkar Lake is surrounded by several bathing ghats, where pilgrims take a sacred bath. Several Hindu temples are situated around the lake, Brahma Temple is the most prominent one. However, the water quality may be a question mark. The lake is also surrounded by several shops, one has to walk through the market to reach the lake ghat. Hindu puja / rituals are also performed in the ghat. Avoid priest / touts in the Lake surroundings.‬

‪Tourists, BEWARE! They have a mega scheme to extort money from tourists after the blessings. I felt extremely coerced and thanks to the driver's warning before the visit, I didn't fall into the trap. The guide was part of the scheme too and the experience was uncomfortable and made the visit very bad.‬

‪The lake at Pushkar has an incredible historical and religious significance. It finds mention in several sacred Hindu Texts and sources and is primarily associated with Lord Brahma, who is considered the creator of the Trinity of Gods-Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. According to most versions of the legend associated with the lake, when Lord Brahma killed the demon Vajranabha, three petals of His divine lotus fell in three parts, creating springs in their place, known as Pushkar. Later on, Brahma also performed a yagna at the place. However, at the end of this ritual, he was cursed by his first wife that, he would be worshipped at this spot only.
The archeological dating of the lake measures that the lake existed even in the 4th century BC. In later periods it was referred to in many sources- from the inscriptions at Sanchi to records of Chinese Traveler Fa Xian. Over the period, many Rajput rulers and local chiefs of Ajmer tried to restore the glory of Pushkar. The lake lost significance only during the brief period of Mughal rule except during the reign of Akbar.‬

‪Trip to the lake and visit to the city...they take us to the stairways and through a ritual to give our family health, wealth, well-being, they tap us at the cash desk for €150 each. When it comes time to pay I tell him that it is too much money for me and I can't afford it... the priest (Brahmin) tells me that I had already promised it in the ritual and that I have to give it by forcing myself to pay that money.... ATTENTION It's a SCAM, two of us paid €300‬

‪A tiny town surrounding a lake, Pushkar in Rajasthan is an enchanting place to visit. According to mythology, a lotus flower fell from Lord Brahma's hand, creating this lake. Many temples surround the water, with colorful ghats (steps) leading down for bathing rituals.

While the architecture isn't grand, the atmosphere is truly special. Witnessing sunrise over the calm water and pilgrims performing puja (worship) is a humbling experience.‬

‪The lake itself is very beautiful and quiet within its surroundings, I feel the sense of being in a holy place even though I’m not a Hindu.witnessing the sunset is truly amazing as the sun reflects into the lake I feel connected. the only down side is some areas can be dirty due to the presence of animals.‬

‪The sacred lake of Pushkar is located in the town of the same name in Rajasthan; it is a lake sacred to Hindus, for whom it represents one of the 5 most important pilgrimage sites in India. It seems that it is mentioned on coins dating back to the 4th century BC.
Over 500 Hindu temples overlook the lake, and 52 ghats (short stairways leading to its shore), from which pilgrims (usually in large numbers) immerse themselves in the waters of the lake to perform sacred ritual baths; devotees assume that a dip in the sacred lake purifies sins and cures skin diseases.
The lake has "perennial" water, largely brought by monsoon rains, with a depth that varies between 8 and 10 m.
For years now, tourism and deforestation in the surrounding area have had a heavy impact on the lake, negatively influencing the quality of the water, reducing its level and destroying the fish population. As part of conservation measures, the government is undertaking a sand dump extraction, water treatment and afforestation programme, as well as a mass awareness program on existing issues.‬

‪The beautiful lake. Please pay attention to the monks. They chase you to scam you for money and if you don't pay attention to them they get annoying especially if you are a woman. And even if you are on the sidewalk and not in the chat, they will urge you to take off your shoes. The place loses its charm because of these people. Donations must be at will. Not under pressure and stipulated by them. The gypsy people are pure joy. Which made my stay there better.‬
