The first specific spa facilities were devloped here in the 1st century CE, what testify the Roman inscriptions found in 1936. From them can also be concluded how Ilidza at that time was a colony, not a settlement that evolved spontaneously and organically over a long period. Most likely it owed its existence to Empreor Marcus Aurelius. The thermal complex was built in the 2nd and 3rd centuries and remained in existence until 6th century. The buildings at pictures represent a hospitalium and hospitium. It was fitted with various items of equipment, that were state-of-the-art for their day, and with piped water and drainage systems, while the heating was by means of a hypocaust system.
