‪This is a great hike. Not too muddy thank goodness. Great exercise and views. Did not see much wildlife but it was quite and warm.
Would definitely do again‬

‪13 April 2023. We are keen hikers visiting from the UK. I am an ecologist in the UK too. We tried this out after visiting the west gate information point and speaking to the ranger that was present. Snow and ice was our only slight concern but we had good clothing and the ranger said that the bears were still sleeping. There were no other people on the trail, no sign in/out book either.
There was snow and there was ice so at times the walk was more of a shuffle and slide. There were beautiful views but we didn’t feel relaxed as there were wolf, fox, moose and bear prints on the trail.
At the bridge point (judging by terrain and tracks) I don’t think anyone had been past (maybe not even the rangers) in the last week since the snow had begun to melt but we carried on.
Bear tracks were on at the top section below the stairs and at the view point. There was graffiti on the stairs which said welcome to the apocalypse. On a fallen tree to the left after this there was a spoon and a message about feeding something that was hungry. Most disturbingly at the view point there was a shredded soda can which can only have been shredded by a bear! We left very swiftly..well as swiftly as you can when you are walking on snow and ice and we sincerely hope that the rangers monitor this trail closely as the can, graffiti and the messages about food scream some sort of bear baiting or deliberate tempting bears to approach visitors activity.

It took four hours in snow and ice.‬

‪It was a good challenge for a couple now 60+ years in age. We did the hike in 3hrs 10 minutes in total with two short stops. This was our first hike this fall BUT we log many km's on our road bikes so our endurance level is good. A first hike for seniors I would recommend giving yourself 4 hours to accomplish and the trail is during dry conditions.‬

‪The park newspaper suggests this hike should take 4 hours. We completed in about 3 hours. We're not speedy hikers, about average, but this seems to be the norm for the time estimates in the paper. The hike is very interesting. I would suggest taking the trail booklet provided at the start of the trail and reading at each numbered post along the way. It tells how there used to be a railroad along sections of this trail. You see remnants of an old rail bridge, some beautiful lookouts and lovely lakes. It is a more challenging hike, listed at 7.5km, and there is some elevation too, but we found it very interesting with beautiful scenery and views. I would highly recommend this hike.‬

‪Grabbed a trail guide at the trailhead and thoroughly enjoyed my 3 hour hike. I was actually pretty amazed at what I learned about the history of the park. The outlook was worth the climb - but definitely got my hr up! There were some muddy patches due to recent rains, but it you don't mind squishing a bit, it wasn't too crazy. My only complaint was that dog owners had left their little goody bags with poop in them along the trail. I appreciate that they picked up after their dogs, but why leave them in the forest?? ‬

‪Great hike, took about 4 hours. You could probably subtract an hour if it's not muddy!
Great, lovely perch to see the vista...including a moose!
Also saw a guinea hen and a pine marten.
Well marked but washrooms on the trail are not open, but the one at the trailhead is open and I saw park staff cleaning it so well done!‬

‪This is one of my favourite Algonquin trails. It's longer than most (about 7.5 km) and fairly difficult in places, with hills, roots, rocks and mud. But there is a good variety of scenery that includes broad panoramas, babbling brooks, leafy forests and some historical remnants of an old railway. Pick up a pamphlet at the entrance that will provide you with good information along the way. Very nice with the fall colours!‬

‪My most favourite trail in Algonquin. Bright yellow in fall. Huge waterfall in first half, spectacular views in the middle and easier on the way back. Heavy traffic and rain makes the trail nearly impossible to hike. Hiking shoes, lots of water in summer, a snack essentials! Steep climbs are rewarded in loads!‬

‪Fairly easy trail - about 5/10 for difficulty. There are a few areas where you need to scramble a bit, but it’s pretty easy.

The majority of the trail is flat, and rolling, with a big climb near the end up stairs. The scenery changes a few times along the way - forest, lake edge, waterfall, wetlands etc...

It was a bit muddy when we did the hike but we were able to avoid getting too messy by scrambling around the edges of the muddy patches. Again, very easy.

The views from the top are epic!!

We completed the hike in about 2 hours (round trip), with stops along the way.

We are both fairly fit, in our 40s, and not experienced hikers.

Highly recommend doing this hike during the autumn. The colours throughout the hike were stunning, and the reward at the top was amazing!! ‬

‪We are thinking of getting into hiking so this hike was kind of a test to see how we would do on a "moderate" trail (on All Trails app). Well, it was awesome! Challenging with great things to see along the way and a spectacular view at the top! When we did the trail it had been raining off and on for a couple of days so it felt more like we were going up a runoff course than a hill but there are rocks and roots that make it easier to avoid the muddy soakers. We did it in about 4 hours. Some people picnic at the top, lots of great sitting on the rocks. We felt accomplished. Highly recommend!‬
