It's impressive up close, and we always see it from a distance, from many neighborhoods, from the Bay Bridge, driving on many streets. It is one of the icons of the Berkeley campus and you can go up to the top to see views of the Bay.

Very unfortunate that the tower was already closed when i arrived. Not sure what the hours are would love to go up to the top. But, still a beautiful and iconic landmark for Cal Berkeley.

This tower is in your vision as you look East from the Bay Bridge and other spots along the Bay. You can walk up to the top for great views. It's the icon on the UC campus, mu alma mater.

I don't usually like history, but I had fun seeing the old photos of Berkeley, the statue to the fallen heroes, and the view from Sather Tower! I learned a lot about how the bell tower works!

We are always impressed by the site of Sather Tower. Its an iconic landmark of the campus. If one takes the elevator to the top, one is also treated with views of the campus, Berkeley, and of the San Francisco Bay Area.

This tower is worth the admission for the view accross the bay to San Francisco. It is easy to see from most parts of the UC campus

This is the iconic building on the UC Berkeley campus and you can see it from many points around town. Worthwhile to climb to the top to get the views of the Bay and the lovely campus.

It is the third-tallest bell-and-clock-tower in the world. It has clocks on its four faces on the campus of the University of California in Berkeley. It is more commonly known as The Campanile for it’s resemblance to the Campanile di San Marco in Venice. It is a recognizable symbol of the university. It’s current 61-bell carillon, built around a nucleus of 12 bells can be heard for many miles. It was given by Jane Sather in memory of her husband, banker Peder Sather. Certainly worth a photo stop, while visiting UC Berkeley.

Located on the campus of UC Berkeley (and visible from most places on campus) is this 300+’ tower dating back over 100 years. It is styled after the Campanile di San Marco in Venice, Italy. For $4 I took the elevator up to the top where I admired over 60 carillon bells set within the clock tower. The 360 degree views are tremendous - SF skyline, Sausalito, bridges, SF Bay and the surrounding hills.

I will have a large backpack with me, it says on the website they cannot go up with you. I read a few reviews that there is somewhere to check your bag, is this for sure that you can check you bag? Don't want to end up not able to go due to a backpack? I am not a student so want to make sure bag check is not something for students only. Thanks

Yes they check all bigger bags (larger than a purse).
The volunteer r student worker will check it, some friends checked all their their bag to England.

There are parking areas that are around the campus. Some of the meters on the street allow up to 8 hours parking for a reasonable charge. One would need to walk to the tower. It would take about 20 minutes to half hour once one finds a parking spot. There are also parking garages.

One could also take BART to Berkeley and then walk to the Sather Tower. One would get off at the Shattuck BART station.
The UC Berkeley web site has additional tips on parking and parking garages, including maps, and so forth.
In terms of charge its
$3 general admission (18 years and over); $2 for seniors, Cal Alumni Association members with ID, and ages 17 and under. The Campanile is free to UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff with Cal ID, and children under 3.
