We are in Capernaum near Lake Galilee. Despite its biblical significance, the town remains lethargic and unchanged. Archaeologists had evacuated several historical ruins here. The tourism board promotes it as the "Hometown of Jesus"
Capernaum unfolds miracles in the ministry of Jesus. Matthew the tax collector was recruited at the marketplace. Jesus healed the servant of a Roman Centurion, the mother-in-law of Peter, and a paralytic who was lowered down from a roof. In the synagogue, Jesus exorcised demon from a possessed man. The cast demonic spirit entered a herd of pigs that plunged into the lake. He raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead.
These miracles happened in Capernaum. We are visiting more churches after lunch.

My wife and I came here without a tour and walked and read on our own. Well, overheard a little other groups with guides too.
In general, an interesting place, but not a must to visit if you are not a fan of such places / stories / religion. Just as an interesting place... it was nice to be here, especially behind the church among the trees overlooking the lake. But you won't miss anything.
However, this place is well suited for full-fledged tours as one of the intermediate points.

CAFARNAUN - Casa de Pedro
Foi onde em dois momentos distintos, Jesus realizou curas:
"Entrando Jesus na casa de Pedro, viu a sogra deste de cama, com febre.
Tomando-a pela mão, a febre a deixou, e ela se levantou e começou a servi-lo."
Mateus 8:14,15
"Vieram alguns homens, trazendo-lhe um paralítico, carregado por quatro deles.
Não podendo levá-lo até Jesus, por causa da multidão, removeram parte da cobertura do lugar onde Jesus estava e, através de uma abertura no teto, baixaram a maca em que estava deitado o paralítico.
Vendo a fé que eles tinham, Jesus disse ao paralítico: "Filho, os seus pecados estão perdoados".
Estavam sentados ali alguns mestres da lei, raciocinando em seu íntimo:
"Por que esse homem fala assim? Está blasfemando! Quem pode perdoar pecados, a não ser somente Deus? "
Jesus percebeu logo em seu espírito que era isso que eles estavam pensando e lhes disse: "Por que vocês estão remoendo essas coisas em seus corações?
Que é mais fácil dizer ao paralítico: ‘Os seus pecados estão perdoados’, ou: ‘Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e ande’?
Mas, para que vocês saibam que o Filho do homem tem na terra autoridade para perdoar pecados — disse ao paralítico — eu lhe digo: Levante-se, pegue a sua maca e vá para casa".
Ele se levantou, pegou a maca e saiu à vista de todos. Estes ficaram atônitos e glorificaram a Deus, dizendo: "Nunca vimos nada igual!"."

É um local riquíssimo em história mas principalmente em espiritualidade. É o local onde Jesus ensinava e realizava milagres salvando a muitos.

The site itself is excellent and should be visited by everyone. The director of the Franciscan brothers who administrate the site was completely unhinged because some of us were wearing modest shorts and refused to let our group enter. When I pointed out to him that I could see people inside walking around inside who were in shorts he said, "well there's nothing I can do about that once they're inside but I won't let anybody through the gate in shorts" and he refused our group. We had to come back a different day.
While it might be understandable that they have the "shorts" rule it is extremely strange that they only enforce it at the gate and don't do anything about it once you're inside. And moreover the anger and rage of the director was astonishing and, frankly, did not reflect Christian kindness in any way.

This is an area on the seashore of Galilee, with a church, ruins of a synagogue, and other ruins all around, with helpful informative signboards. We went in a group of 50 people on a Holy Land tour and definitely it is a must-do while in Israel! We were given free time so it was nice to just wander around and see things at our own pace and time.

The ruins are well-preserved, well-marked. Very significant in biblical history. Lots of tour groups, but possible to see most of the ruins in between large groups. Highly recommend.

La presencia de Jesus en Cafarnaum se siente, al ver las ruinas expuestas, la sinagoiga, la casa de pedro, uno se transporta a la epoca cuando Jesus estuvo ahí y camino entre esas piedras.

We stopped and explored the remains in this town and were especially entranced by the old synagogue. When coupled with the remains of the houses nearby, you could almost see events written about in the Bible happening before your eyes.

This is perhaps the most significant religious site in the area. It is a village that has been excavated with the synagogue where Jesus taught and St Peter's house opposite identified. These events are described in the Bible. The house has been sympathetically marked with a modern church on stilts built above. This church is beautiful and light on the inside and well worth a visit. You can also enter the synagogue although the roof has long disappeared. A peaceful area apart from the large number of visitors.

Yes there are many tours to Capernum. My wife and I travel without a guide and we booked a Via Tour. It covered many sites around the Sea of Galilee and was very well done.

How long could you spend at this location?

If you can find a guide book that tells about each ruin and building and the gardens, putting them in context that would be great. We had a guided tour and were there about 2 hours. I would have stayed longer enjoying the setting.

J'y étais avec une amie en novembre de cette année. Nous y sommes allées en bus au départ de Netanya, le parcours du combattant
Nous avons visité l'église de la multiplication, l'église de la Primauté et Mensa Christi
Après cette visite, nous avons suivi le balisage Capharnaüm national park et après avoir emprunté un mauvais chemin sans issue nous n'avons pas trouvé le site
Le guide en notre possession ne nous a été d'aucune aide
