Loved Hikes Carpinteria campgrounds, tar pits to Rincon. We stayed next to Carpinteria Salt Marsh at a lovely bnb Tropicshoresapartments.com They take dogs. Loved Carpinteria small town charm, shops, restaurants especially 500 Maple Street Surf Shop

Nice beach and not very crowded. The water was too cold too swim but would come back during a warmer time of year. Beware your feet will be covered in tar but a nice beach to take a stroll.

We were surprised there were tar pits here and they are easy to find. Be prepared with good walking shoes and careful with dogs.

Not anything exciting…very little tar to be found and just an average beach. If you’re looking for a place to take a 30 minute stroll, it’s decent.

Enjoyed the views and at high tide there really is no beach to walk on but a pretty good path along the cliff sides, and you can see evidence of tar oozing but not necessarily along the path. Lots of people and dogs about, so it can get crowded.

Very interesting to see if you’ve never had a chance to see natural tar before. A large part of the hill looks to be formed by the tar itself. We brought some coconut oil with us in case we needed to get the sticky tar off of our shoes or skin.

The water is DEFINITELY awesome. We like the view and the other visitors seemed family oriented and "safe". The tar on the beach can get on your clothes and skin and that's not to "fun". Overall, we like to visit the Carpinteria beaches. Close to everything ad na good place to just RELAXXXXXX!

Okay, I am an ecologist so the primary driver is to satisfy my inner nerd - which happens here. I've stopped a few times now and get a kick out of poking the tar and seeing how different the viscosity is under different conditions ... along with seeing it ooze or pop out of seemingly random spots.
Beyond that, it is a lovely stretch of beach that does not ever seem to be too packed, especially if you walk down towards the pier and away from the state beach.
