Columbia State Historic Park
Columbia
The Fallon Hotel, Fallon Theater, an historic town, and a great pizza
845556829
1) I stayed at the Fallon Hotel. The room was tiny, but I don't really book a room in order to spend a lot of time in it; when I was sleeping, I didn't notice the small dimensions. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was so welcome on a very hot day. When I made reservations, most of the other rooms were indicated as occupied, but I didn't hear anyone else. There was coffee ready for me the following morning.
Note: there's a sister hotel in the mid-town, the City Hotel. There's a dining room there, but it wasn't operating in June 2022 -- still closed from Covid? Maybe, but the tables were white-tableclothed and set with dinnerware.
2) The hotel's big draws for me were the historical aspect and the proximity to the small theater. I saw a really excellent musical at the theater and I can wholeheartedly recommend the group that presented there.
3) The town is comprised of historic buildings and these extend beyond the boundaries of the SHP. It's worthwhile to take a stroll outside the Park, there are wonderful structures there too. I could imagine the bustling miners of a bygone era. There are historical recreation events occurring throughout the year, listed on the Park's website, that may be worth a visit. My point is that walking around the area was pretty interesting.
4) I had a great pizza at the Saloon at the northern edge of the town: chunks of sausage and pepperoni, chunks of mushrooms, a white cheese, and a horseradish (not tomato) sauce, and the medium size was plenty big enough for two people. Five stars for that!

I stopped here twice with my wife on a recent trip (April 2022). We stopped on a Thursday Morning and on a Saturday Afternoon in the same week. I had been here once or twice many years ago, probably Pat Brown was the governor, and my wife had never been. On Thursday, the weather was cool and damp, the majority of people there were school groups. The town wasn't crowded and the few stores and restaurants that were open were uncrowded and friendly. Disappointed as to the number of businesses that were open.
Saturday was a warmer day, more people and a few more businesses were open. The businesses that were open were crowded.
Somewhat of a tourist trap.

We have been here a number of times. Sometimes when an activity is going on and when it is quite and no extra activities are going on. We enjoyed both visits. But if you are going with children pick a weekend when they have Gold Rush Days. It should be on their website. Children can pan for gold, try their hand at bowling (the gold rush way) have a sarsaparilla, dip candles, ride on a stage coach. Parking is free for this park but there is a cost for some of the activities. Really a step back in time with docents in period costume. We write audio tours for VoiceMap and this destination is one of the stops on our gold rush tour One the road to gold: A Highway 49 driving tour from Angels Camp to Jamestown.

We came here on a Sunday morning. It is a lot of fun with stage coach rides and fun shops. The sourdough bread from the grocery store was great. We would highly recommend this trip and think children would learn about the gold rush from this trip. We found it very fun!

Wonderful Gold Rush Era experience - stage coach rides and shops were nice. If you are there in the off-season check for when they are open. We were there on the second Saturday and it was a sunny January Day so it was perfect.

While in Sonora California, My Wife and I visited Columbia State Historic Park.
We took a ride on the Stage Couch. lots of fun and the driver stopped by a tree where he told a story of a stage robber.
We stopped by a shop, the lady there was very friendly and the gentleman there showed us the guns on display.
We stopped in the Columbia House Restaurant to have lunch. There was an hour wait, they called us in half the time.
We were seated,
Waited for a while (half hour) some other guests were seated and their order taken.
We didn't see our waitress for a while.
We were about to leave when a waitress named Lee stopped and asked if we had our order taken.
When we explained we had been there for an while and no one had taken our order, and some guests had come in after us and had their order taken, she kept her her smile, said she would be our waitress, then took our order right away.
Lee was very Friendly and a very nice Lady. The food we ordered was good.
Her service was Outstanding.
She smiled and made our lunch worth waiting for.
If it hadn't been for Lee we would not have wanted to return.
We Thank Lee for her Outstanding, Friendly Service.

Don’t waste your time after third week on September. Nothing open Mon through Wednesday. And on Thursday it is dead all over town. Boring!!!! Maybe Friday to Sunday are better store ow er at the leather shop didn’t even say hi. Park with supposed buildings just frames of buildings. Gold panning not open. Only fun thing there was climbing on rocks. So disappointed

The museum is the heart of this town. The short movie and exhibits make sense of the rest. I learned a lot and enjoyed it despite the heat. Take a day off and go.

We went at 10am and a few things were not open, such as the stagecoach, which I wanted to ride. It was a hot day, so wanted to get started early. I did pan for gold and that was fun. Restaurants not open for lunch till noon. There were no crowds and the little shops were fun. It was interesting to go in the few museum type buildings.

We came by on the recommendation of a local. There were only a few buildings opened at this time, but a lot of information was available on the walk along the boardwalk. The museum was nice and the docent was really informative and we really got a lot out of the history she shared with us. The displays in the older buildings were well put together and easy to read.
We were saddened that more buildings weren't manned, but understand with the pandemic in force that there are limits.

We were there in May and they only did stagecoach rides on the weekend. You can go to their website and check it out, they may have more information. They do have a calendar of events there

We took ours this week without any difficulty; she was on the leash obviously and in our arms inside the stores for convenience.

Will be traveling with husband and two teenage boys between San Francisco and Yosemite West Entrance. Is this a good place to stop over? Any suggestions on lodging?

Depends - first it is not "on the way" - it adds about an hour detour compared to going straight to Yosemite from SFO.
Secondly, it doesn't take that much time to visit the park - a couple of hours more or less should do it. It is a small compact couple of streets park. So personally, I would not plan on staying overnight just for this. There should be time to go to wherever you were planning to stay for the Yosemite trip.
As to whether it is "worth the effort" I guess it depends on interests, how much time you have, how interested everyone is about the "old mining town" etc. I found it interesting and fascinating largely because we went with friends who grew up around the area and was familiar with the history etc. I feel that without that historical background, it would become just a walk through an old town. Read the comments in the review section to get a feel for the place. Just my opinion, if pressed for time, I would skip this, but if interested in exploring off the beaten track, this could be interesting!
Happy Travels and welcome to California!

Will it worth a two to three days trip in Columbia State Historic Park ? Any other attractions in that area?

I'd say one day is all you'll need. Check Trip Advisor for other attractions you might enjoy seeing. It is also a big wine area and lots of old gold towns near by.

How much time should 3 adults plan on spending at Columbia? What is the time of the last stage coach ride on May 19th? Will the stage coach ride be available May 18th? Lastly how long is the ride? Thanks

Sorry I cannot tell you about the stagecoach, but I can say that even if you plan to eat there the longest you would need would be 2-3 hours.
