Military camels. Hollywood celebrities. Gold mining and astronomy. These are just a few interesting features of the history covered in this wonderful museum and home of the local historical society. Local history museums provide their communities with knowledge and insight into the past that could easily be lost without careful attention. And historical societies are wonderful respositories of the gossip of the past, the little fascinating tidbits that would otherwise disappear.
This museum does a wonderful job in fulfilling this mission, both through maintaining historical displays and educating its visitors. The Ridge Route Communities Museum focuses on the history and lore of the geographical area colloquially known as The Grapevine and the surrounding areas including Frazier Park, Pine Mountain Club, Lebec, Gorman and Mt. Pinos, among others. It's a rich and diverse history beginning with the Chumash, the Spanish missionaries and on to the European-American "pioneers". The Civil War and Hollywood get their due.
But the Ridge Route, built in 1915, is the tie that binds the museum together. An engineering feat at the time, it was the first paved highway from LA county to Kern county and was an extremely popular and trendy route, lined with hotels and bars. It's still there; learn more about it and the museum here ridgeroutemuseum.org
Call first for hours. And admission is free.

Really nice information and pictures of the area! They have classes to make pine needles baskets, tours of the old ridge route, more information than you would ever expect, a must see!

The folks staffing the Ridge Route Communities Museum & Historical Society are some of the nicest and most knowledgeable people you could want to meet. Besides visiting this museum chock full of interesting history and artifacts (inside and out), we have also taken one of the tours along the historic Ridge Route periodically offered (see their Facebook page). The museum also has a nice collection of books on the history of the area. In fact, we picked up a copy of the book on the Ridge Route as well as some papers on local ghost stories and earthquake faults. There is so much one can explore in the surrounding communities and this museum makes a good first stop for your journey. And best of all... It's FREE!

If you have an interest in the first highway over the Tehachipis that connected northern and southern California, this is the place to go. The exhibits tell the whole story of how the road was built, how it prospered, and how it was left to languish when better routes were built. The staff are very knowledgeable, and are pleased to tell you stories about the road and the communities that it supported. There are many displays of photos, books about the road, and the tools and equipment that were used to build it. It's an important piece of Southern California history, and I recommend it highly.

This is a wonderful little museum, it has so many pictures of the old grape vine and all of the little towns, and they have a good little gift shop, great place to visit.

I snuck out for a quick visit here while friends were relaxing and eating over a longish lunch ( I eat quickly and also have a review for the food).
I was in and out in 30 minutes but really coulda-shoulda spent an hour here. Lots of great photos, tools household items and a large array of locally written history.
I love museums especially small country-county historical museums.
This is small--one room.
Great staff the friendly and is so willing to share her knowledge of the area.
Yes, this museum is worth the visit.
Free admission but with a donation jar---give it up to the jar!

For being in such a small community, it's surprising to see a museum at all.
If you find yourself in, or near, Frazier Park - Why not check it out?
It is also near the Pond, Library and Skate Park. One could make an entire day out of a visit. Not even counting if you wanted to go on a hike.

I enjoy all the historical items . It is tiny but nostalgic. The people who work there are volunteers and they are knowledgeable and kind.

Well, I bet you didn't know anything about the history of Frazier Park, Lebec, Gorman and the Tejon Pass. Here you will find a tiny museum where you can discover it all. There is also an outdoor area with exhibits. Serious scholars can dip into quite a nice library. Local volunteers, some of them, have extensive roots on the Mountain, as they call their community. Short for Frazier Mountain, although that nomenclature covers the above named places and Lockwood Valley, Lake of the Woods, Cuddy Valley, and East Antelope Valley as well as many other spots around and about. Exhibits change from time to time, so keep coming back.
