‪Incredible nature preserve!! One of my favorites now for sure - loved it so much I made a second stop here on my way back home!! It's a birder's paradise for sure - with lots of peaceful trails just bursting with wildlife - and the river too!

I saw several lifers here - the highlight for me being a flock of Golden Crowned Sparrows!! I was so excited!! Oh and the Black-necked Stilts!! So elegant and animated! An absolute joy to watch! I came up to this area for the great fall migration of birds from the Arctic tundra and was not disappointed!! Hundreds of Greater White-Fronted Geese were here! Not to mention all the Northern Shovelers!

And apparently there are lots of salmon here during certain times of the year and at high tides! The signs around say they get more water and fishes during high tides! Would be fun to see it!

I walked the Wetlands Walk trail, River Walk Loop, and Boardwalk Loop - all these trails are wonderfully maintained! I was so impressed! And the Wetlands Walk trail and Boardwalk Loop are handicap accessible and very well kept - parts of them paved, and part boardwalk - but the boardwalk is so well maintained I don't think there'd be any issues with wheelchairs or other accessible equipment. Plenty of wildlife viewing from these trails easily!

There's plenty of parking in two lots close to each other and both had clean vault toilets. There's a visitor center but it looked closed. There are numerous benches along the Boardwalk Loop trail and some really nice lookout points - there's even a boat launch and I saw several people launching their kayaks - a great idea here!

I highly recommend this preserve and will definitely be making my way back here come spring!‬

‪An easy set of trails and paths that provide a great view of the wetlands and some oak forest. Even after a long, hot summer with most of the birds gone, our October walk was worthwhile. There was still some amount of water left. There were many, many birds hidden in the low vegetation and the reeds on the water that were tweeting and chirping in large choruses. On a clear day, it was lovely and everyone we saw seemed happy to be outdoors in such a nice natural environment. The Visitor Center was still not open when we visited. Mosquitoes are an issue in some locations so prepare for that.‬

‪My nature-loving friends & I found this Preserve to be exceptional for viewing a variety of birds. We also thought it was clean, well organized, & had many educational aspects.‬

‪On the west side of the preserve there is a board walk out between seasonal wet lands. A plethora of ducks, geese, egrets, and occassionally heron and crane.‬

‪Followed several well-maintained trails from and around the office/nature center that was closed when I visited. Discovered dry-erase board of bird species other visitors had seen recently when I got back :( Didn’t notice it when I started due to the closeby hummingbird feeder and close views of Anna’s h-birds and urge to see birds not read bulletin boards. Saw and photographed a wide variety of birds (>50 species for the entire visit), wildflowers, and dragonflies, (along the 6 miles of trails I walked total) and then went out the boardwalk - should have done the boardwalk in the morning before the afternoon sun glare made many of the birds hard to ID in the south-side ponds. Also located the Desmond Rd ponds late but got to see my first white-tailed kites and then lots of geese and sandhill cranes flying in to roost at sunset.

Will definitely visit again, if I’m in the Sacramento area.‬

‪This is the best place to photograph, paint, and just to walk or kayak. Dusk is a wonderful time to catch the evening glow and watch the cranes fly in. Check the web site for when the exhibits are open at the preserve.‬

‪I've been here all 4 seasons including hot summer and rainy flooded winter and all times are magical. This place is a gem, a bit of Old California hiding between the 99 and the 5 freeways where the only undammed river, the Consumnes, flows as it largely chooses through wetland and slough toward the bay. The canopy of valley oaks and gazillion birds make a great place to bring the whole family, the canoe, but just not the pets at home, since as a natural preserve, not like a national forest, is here to protect the native critters.‬

‪Went kayaking with friends and really enjoyed the facilities, parking was abundant and trails leading out was well maintained. Have a small exhibit area focusing on native flora and fauna, and clean restrooms for all. Only drawback was the lenght of travel involved in launching your kayak. So have a good kayak transport, sunscreens or cover up since the sun will beat down on you in the water. Plenty of wildlife to see, Blue herons and Egrets, and turtles and frogs.‬
