‪We only hiked the Peters Creek Trail from the entrance to the algae pond. The trail mostly runs along the creek of its namesake and is mostly shaded by trees. We visited in November and there was not that much water in the creek, but still there was an abundance of ferns growing by the creek side and moss on some of the rocks in the creek. It was a very pleasant hike.‬

‪We went to Long Ridge Open Space Preserve. Its a pretty area to hike with good views. It is accessed via Skyline Boulevard, which is a pleasant tree lined road with good views of the Bay Area and distant views of the Pacific Ocean.‬

‪Pretty hot and dry along the trail but the creek crossing alone is well worth it. Mostly shady to begin with, but then there are views to the ocean, along a very wide, very sunny trail. Back down, with two different trails to choose from and back to our starting point at highway 35. About 5 miles all in. Pretty nice. Better in spring!‬

‪Off Skyline, just after you pass the Palo Alto City border going north, this hiking area is on the west side of the road. Parking is at the Grizzly Flats sign on the east. Be careful crossing Skyline. The trail starts out slightly downhill and then as one turns right, one hikes up a fairly steep hill. We did this loop in two hours. Beautiful views as one reaches the top. Other trails provide longer hikes. Most of the trail was in the shade which we didn't need in November, but it's great in the hot summer. No water, no bathroom facilities, so come prepared. On a Tuesday, we met only a few other hikers and a few mountain bikers.‬
