‪Part of the adventure for Giant Rock is getting there. While not tough cross country motoring, it is interesting to run along some dirt roads off the other well beaten tracks. It perhaps can be defined more as interesting than as a compelling stop. Once you’ve walked around the rock, you are pretty much ready to head back to paved roads. It’s disappointing to see the amount of graffiti and the number of climbing bolts marring an otherwise impressive slab of rock - On the “really?” side, it is interesting to think someone actually lived under the rock for a while.‬

‪Just reaching the rock is an adventure in and of itself. The roads that lead there are hardly roads at all. The ground is knit furrows that will make your car bounce like a bobblehead. Perhaps a better word is "trail" to describe the sabulous lines that cut through the wispy desert brush before feeding into a sandy expanse. Once you get there, roads cease all together but you will see the Giant Rock, like a beacon set against a hazy and enveloping azure.‬

‪When we arrived at the Giant Rock, Landers, we saw how big it is.

There is only one of the Giant Rock.

There were more people here as well.

Nearby there were lots of rocks.

A must see!‬

‪Cleaning out the garage and found these old photos we took a few days after Giant Rock Split. It’s a shame people rushed to destroy it with oil and paint.‬

‪We had to drive in the desert to get to the Giant Rock.

At first we saw lots of rocks on the mountain.

We were not alone. They were two other people.

The Giant Rock had lost a sliver of his Giant Rock

I explored everything and we had fun.

A must see! Wow!‬

‪You may as well go see it...there’s not much else to do. You don’t need a 4x4, but the road is a whooptie do rodeo. The rock is totally cool...bummer about all the graffiti. Make sure you read up on all the history and don’t get abducted or probed by any aliens. ‬

‪Back in the day, (1950-1960's) this was a destination for UFO enthusiasts. Now popular place for day trip, camping and off roading. I have led outdoor groups here several times and everyone is amazed at scale of the rock and the quirky history of the area.‬

‪If you've read anything about the history of this place, you know that this Giant Rock has been some sort of holy place for Native Tribes for a very long time. They used to meet here annually. I am not Native and I don't know the whole story, but I can clearly see and feel WHY they came here. There are ley lines and vortex like energy all around you here.

Unfortunately, I can only surmise this land was taken away from the Natives when a white dude bought it and then George bought it after the first dude's untimely death. George used to meditate under this rock and supposedly this is the spot where the aliens visited him and gave him the blueprints to build the Integratron.

There's no going under this giant rock today. It looks as if when they tore down the diner they threw all the building materials under it to close it up. Also, in 2000, the Giant Rock split in two. It may have been an earthquake.

The energy is here and it's crazy that this spot has not been protected by a Tribe or the State of CA. Instead, it's now a trashy party spot. We went on a Weds afternoon so it was pretty empty but there is trash, cigarette butts, broken bottles and grafitti all over this area. It's really sad.

The drive to the Giant Rock is 3.5 miles north of the Integratron. There is no tour and nothing really there, but if you came all the way to see the Integratron you might as well see where it all started IMHO.‬

‪The area is unique and does have a special vibe. The area has alot of history including Howard Hughes and the deserted air field. Sad to see how disrespectful some visitors have been with graffiti and leaving trash. We picked up one bag of trash . If you go help keep the place clean and do not leave cans and bottles PLEASE or bring a bag and pick up what careless people have left‬

‪I would say that this is a sight to be seen if you are out this way, but it's just one Giant Rock, and that's it. The road out here was a bit sketchy in our rental car, so take it nice and slow. The silence is almost deafening on the ears, and it's eerie because we were the only people out here, except one dude in a van. You really do have to experience this for yourself just to appreciate the massiveness of the rock, but I would not go out of your way to see it (unless you are already up near Landers). There is a really cute new coffee shop that just opened called Giant Rock Meeting Place and they have great food and coffee to eat on your way!‬
