‪Once inside the store we had an amazing experience. Give yourself at least an hour to run through both floors on the shop. Helpful tip: come off the metro stop at Pershing square nearest the central market/angles flight. Much cleaner zone than the 5th street entrance.‬

‪My daughter as wife had read about this place before we left. They are bookworms and wanted to check this site out. It has a lot of interesting books both old and new as well as small stores up on the second level that sells artistic and occult items.‬

‪This is a pretty bookstore and I'm glad I paid it a 45 minute pit stop, but I'm not sure what the fuss is to be honest. First, the book collection is just OK. I usually buy dozens of books at bookstores and didn't even leave with one here. My local used book store in Manassas, Virginia, has a better collection. And of the books I contemplated, they're $5-10 a pop. Hardly cheap.

The worst part, however, is how dangerous the whole area feels. Aggressive homeless and mentally ill people parading outside. I almost turned around before pushing through them to enter the bookstore. This store gets marketed as some Los Angeles jewel, but it was just an average bookstore in Skid Row to me. Worth a look to see if you'll find something, but hardly worth going out of your way for (I visited in between Broad Museum and Little Tokyo).‬

‪Very cool bookstore with tons of books and great photos opportunities. We had a great time getting lost in the books. Also other artists are upstairs. ‬

‪Really cool vintage bookstore with lots or art and fun stuff to look at. Parking can be hectic around the shop and the books could be more organized but overall it was a great few hour visit‬

‪My family loved the communal vibe of this converted warehouse. With interesting nooks and crannies , you feel like your in an "Alice in Wonderland" journey. Books, vinyl records, handmade crafts , all at the Last Bookstore" Your in the old downtown part of LA Seedy , but at the same time attempting a renaissance . In the neighborhood are jewelry, electronic shops next to empty storefronts.

We found parking right around the corner from the Last Bookstore for 10 dollars‬

‪An must have experience for book lovers. A gem in downtown LA. Cool vibe, a few comfortable chairs and interesting decor throughout. Oh - and a fab book selection! One of my favorite bookstores on the planet. Staff is friendly and helpful too.‬

‪I've never been to The Last Bookstore itself but - wanting to support independent bookstores - i HAVE tried to order from them online, but so far, no good. The website has small print & is confusing. If they make a mistake, there's no way to rectify it. They don't read their webmail and on their online ordering site, no phone # is given so there's no other way to contact them. On their store website there are 2 phone numbers but nobody answers either one, so what's the point? VERY frustrating!‬

‪This is the largest bookstore in SoCal. The challenge for us was finding street parking and navigating by the rows of homeless tents when we did find one. Parking per hour cost more than some of the books inside! At the entrance they check all larger bags. Once inside, the first floor held the cashier desk, towards the back was where you could sell your books and records, seating area with couches, and the more valuable books in their own room. Upstairs was called the labyrinth and only reachable via stairs. A tunnel of books was popular with almost every group wanting to take selfies or photos of themselves. A walk in vault with a real safe door contained all the horror books. The Danger Room surrounded by saw blades was full of comics. The flying book display was cool and the first sight to see upon reaching the second floor. You definitely want to walk and explore all areas on the second floor. After finishing all the books, we walked by a number of art shops before descending the same set of stairs. Definitely a good stop if in the area.‬

‪My husband and I visited The Last Bookstore during our time in LA while exploring the West Coast. We had seen pictures of The Last Bookstore and thought it would be a fun place to check out. We're both avid readers and love checking out unique bookstores (and picking up a book to remember it by!). When we were in Venice,
Libreria Acqua Alta was one of the highlights of our trip and my husband was so excited to find an Italian copy of a book from one of his favorite book series (Dragonlance).

The Last Bookstore wasn't the experience we thought it would be at all. When we entered, they asked my husband if he could check his bag (a camera bag that was smaller than my pocketbook, which they had no issue with). They told us they had no issue with cameras, just the bag. Fine, we checked it, not a big deal.

The store itself is full of fun and interesting displays of books and related history. We would have really enjoyed exploring it more but the staff were clearly very on edge about us for some reason. I can't imagine what it would have been - we were obviously tourists (I had my SLR with me) and were dressed up for dinner (we were heading to Barton G afterward) but we were definitely being followed as we went through the store. They had a little room with special editions of books and we went in there to see if they had any special editions of our favorites. I'm dying to get a leather-bound or other nice copy of E.M. Forster's "A Room With a View" but the staff actually made it uncomfortable (and didn't offer any assistance). We decided to ignore them and continue looking through the store anyway, but it was a really bad experience.

We ended up deciding not to buy anything at all because we didn't find anything worth packing in our suitcase and the staff made our shopping experience unwelcoming. I would strike The Last Bookstore from your list if you're in town and shop elsewhere.‬
