The visitor’s center was open when we went. And a ranger on duty who was professional and friendly. There’s lots of artifacts and exhibits about the area. Make sure to go to the 2nd floor too. Restrooms and lots of parking. No souvenirs to buy, sadly.

Cool place way out in the desert. The visitor center was closed due to Covid and staffing but it was fun to all around. But there is plenty of info to absorb

We were in the area to photograph freight trains climbing the curving grade just before Cima CA. BTW: if interested in photographing trains, next to the first switch as the trains enter the summit at Cima, you will find an elevated mound that is perfect for a tripod. You can't miss it driving up from Kelso. That said, we drove from Cima to Kelso and were looking forward to seeing how the station restoration turned out. Thanks to COVID, the station was closed but we managed to walk around the building and it looks great. Would love to visit when it's open. The parking area in the visitor center is fairly new and well maintained. There are restrooms adjacent to the lot that were clean and stocked. They even have a water dispenser for campers to fill jugs. It would be a great place to view the trains as they pass by, as soon as the depo re-opens.

I so wish this had been open to go in and see but due to COVID-19 it wasn't. We looked in the windows and read the information posted outside of this it seemed very interesting. I love historical places/things and this seemed to be full of history. The building is beautiful! I gave it a very good rating because I didn't get to see the entire thing but I'm sure if I had it would have been a ''!

Hermoso lugar para descansar. Se trata de una antigua estación de tren restaurada, en la cual hay un restaurante y una tienda de recuerdos. Además, se preservaron algunas áreas de la antigua estación (oficina administrativa, sala de venta de boletos). Está cerrado martes y miércoles. El parking está abierto todos los días, y tiene baños disponibles, muy limpios. Hay un sector con mesas y bancos para descansar.

Après avoir roulé des kilomètres au milieu du désert nous voilà arrivés à ce visitor center où il y a une petite exposition très intéressante sur la faune et la flore du lieu. On y trouve également une aire de pique-nique avec des tables et des toilettes. Un endroit pour se rafraîchir un peu. Nous sommes en février et il fait près de 30 degrés Celsius... qu est ce que cela doit être l été. Finalement c est bien mieux en cette saison !

Great stop in the middle of the Mojave Desert! We stopped, checked out the sites and got a stamp for the National Park Passport. They also have nice bathrooms. Make sure you are fueled up before entering the preserve because there are No gas stations or places to eat, but so worth the stop!

We decided to travel Vegas to Palm Springs via part of the Mojave Desert Preserve. Since we came through Prim Valley it was a little disappointing to not have any type of park map of things to do until we made it to Kelso Depot. They have some great tours if you plan in advance.
We found the desert here to be unlike some of the areas in Nevada where there is an abundance of color and more wildlife. We did not see much through this area. The Depot is a great piece of history and they have a nice walk through museum area to see the history. The rangers at the counter were friendly and helpful. The restrooms were clean and it's a nice place to get a break from the driving.

We stopped at Kelso Depot Visitor Center during our journey through Mojave National Preserve. The site has some interesting exhibits outside including the cage from a historic jail. Inside the staff were very knowledgeable about the area and mentioned a couple of must-see locations for us to hit. The advice was excellent and tremendously better than what you find online or in a travel book. Make sure to stop by Kelso Depot first thing!

Kelso is a great stop while driving through the Mojave. There are bathrooms outside of the visitor center and the building is gorgeous! Inside you can tour both levels and learn more about the history of the area and the depot.

You could cycle there if you really wanted too it’s a long hot and smooth windy road. Normal car is fine. It’s lovely scenery enjoy! Stop and take photos at the turn ins too en route
