I took the Historic Tour from the Custom House. The tour was an easy walk and lasted about an hour. We visited the First Brick House, The Old Whaling Station (that has a front porch side walk made out of whale bones!), California's First Theater (again with some whale bones on the short wall), Jos. Boston & Co (Casa del Oro), the pretty little park behind The Pacific House and the tour ended at The Pacific House. The guide also pointed out the spot where the US claimed CA (from Mexico). The Pacific House. at the end of the tour, is a very cute little museum, that you could walk around on your own after the tour. (Entrance to the museum is free.)

Worth checking out. Nice smaller museum geared toward local history. It was free when we were there although donations are welcome. You can get through it in under an hour if you don't read all of the information but could easily take longer.

Right next to our hotel. Ducked into the free museum. Unguided tour. Beautiful grounds. Not for a whole day. Maybe an hour.

We thoroughly enjoyed walking through all the beautiful gardens around the Custom House area and marveling at the old trees still standing among all the beautiful flowers and shrubs.

Use your phone to listen to info about the sites as you walk the historical tour around Monterey. Start at the Pacific House.

We took a nice walk to see the different historical buildings at Monterey State Historic Park. Its a good way to learn about local history.

We were there after lunch. Probably a good choice of time as it was not too busy. Nice place to sit and enjoy.

Located just outside of the wharf so if you are visiting you must go look around. Plenty of artefacts and if you ask one of the guides they will give you so much more about the history associated with this site.

While visiting our granddaughter in Monterey, my wife and I took some time to visit the historical sites in the downtown area. We enjoyed the interesting and informative displays. Even more, we were delighted by the flowers, trees and other vegetation in many of the locations. They were beautiful!

Can you tell me the opening hours for a weekday in August please?
The museums are open from 10 am to 4 pm each day, except Monday when the Pacific House Museum is closed.

There are several lots around Fishman's Wharf, the historic park is at the base of the wharf. If you take the walking tour, you walk along many streets with parking, if you get the route map in advance, you can start the tour anywhere. The Presidio Chapel is at the end of the walking tour and there is plenty of street parking. We left the parking lot with the car on the back of a two truck and they just let us go. The parking fee is not high.

From the cruise ship a tender will take you to Fisherman's Wharf. Walk to the end of the pier, 600 ft., and you will walk into the Historical Park which is about 500 ft square. Total distance round trip is about 1/2 mile of flat walking. Enjoy!
