Located right on the San Andreas fault in the middle of a desert plain is this incredibly large, lush oasis with huge Palm trees and very active diverse bird life. Better than any Oasis we saw in Joshua Tree National Park. Truly awesome. Good easy to moderate hiking trails.

This was my favorite part of our vacation! It was like nothing I’d ever seen before. It’s even more amazing in person than the pictures make it out to be! We saw a coyote during our hike. You do have to park along the highway, which we found easy. The restrooms & parts of the park are closed due to staffing issues. Everything is well marked and well maintained.

We did have to park on the side of the road and walk into the Coachella Valley Preserve. Not sure why the parking lot is blocked off, but it is. The people working there are volunteers so that might be part of the challenge of opening the area.
There is a board walk that goes over running water and through the gigantic palm trees. Very impressive. The boardwalk area is a short trail and fairly even and easy. If you want to walk longer, you can go the the McCallum Pond. The pond access was closed in October 2022 but should be open soon. The volunteer told us that the pond was being cleaned up from trash (shame on people who do that) and restocking of native fish. So it was closed to help future generations view native plants and fish. We did hike up to a Vista Point which was a gravely walk up with a view of the desert.
We did see a coyote when we walked along another palm groove area. Also, walked further on the trail to a mountain and saw a large nest in the mountain side. $5 donation is requested and that is a low price for the enjoyment we had.

I was excited to visit this place but found no facilities open and it was not clear when they will be. There is no where to park but on the highway and bathrooms and everything else locked up. I could have lived with all that except after we hiked the 2 miles to McCallum oasis we found it fenced off as well. The thousand palms boardwalk is cool but I did leave disappointed.

This is not a safe place to visit. You cannot park in their parking lot. You have to park on a busy highway. We were only in the park for about 30 minutes and our car’s passenger front window was busted out and things in our car were stolen. I would not recommend this park.

Short hiking trails through this small Preserve are offering a spectacular close look at these giants. The Ranger station, when staffed, is providing detailed info. The visit is absolutely worth it and free of charge.

Pushawalla Palms trail is a must do. From the visitors center this round trip was 6.8 miles for us. We chose the top of the ridge heading out , down to the Oasis of the Palms then up a Stoney gully to the desert flats. It was almost 100 degrees but so worth it when you can stand among these beautiful palm trees I. The middle of the desert in the San Andres Fault along the fracture line. Such an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Just take plenty of water and watch for rattlesnakes

The preserve looks lovely, although I didn't get a chance to see it. This review is only regarding the initial arrival. We were greeted with a gate, closed to vehicles which led to a huge empty parking lot. We have 2 adults with us who have mobility issues but can walk with assistance. They could have walked a ways enjoying the shade of the trees on the trails but having to walk in the heat a hundred yards from the road to the trails entry and back was not practical. A park guide told me that the preserve had become so popular tour busses were showing up and the parking lot traffic was becoming a hazard. So now people have to park on the side of a busy road and cross it, because of course there is no parking on the entry side of the road. This pretty much eliminates most people with disabilities from enjoying the preserve.
It just seems like a very unsatisfactory reaction to a problem. Surely the local agencies could get together and figure out something better than this.

Have you ever seen a real oasis? Neither had I. This was a wonderful experience to see what these things really are. I might’ve like to have more of a narration and more information, but the experience was well worth it.

Very easy walking within hand around an oasis while 22 weeks pregnant. Just be sure to bring water and your good to go. Spent about an hour or so here and was able to complete all walking trails within hand around the immediate oasis.

i walk with a cane. IS it possible to experience at least some of the area with limited mobility?
Are there climbs? Rough territory?

We loved our experience there even though we didn't walk far because the snakes were active at that time. I was wearing sandals!
Is there the possibility to store a hand luggage while visiting?

CVP is wilderness and the visitor center is rustic. I would not leave anything in view in the car in the parking lot. There is no storage for anything. Bring water.
how long a drive from Palm Springs?

Any suggestions on easy (1-4 miles) wildflower trails where we can see lots of wildflowers?

You can do the little loop at the Coachella valley preserve to the oasis and back , that is easy and you can still see the followers.
You can see the beautiful wild flowers at Joshua Tree park.
You can enter from the south side, they are beautiful and just stop your car.
You can also depending where you are the Borrego Spring park, there were beautiful flowers.
Do you have to pay an entrance fee?

AAA recommended your location as a must see. Our grandchildren are small in strollers. Is the location stroller friendly by chance?

Coachella Preserve not good for strollers. When you enter the palm grove, there are steps of varying heights leading down to the boardwalk. Not at all conducive to strollers.
A better possibility would be Whitewater Preserve off the northern end of 111. There is a large pond with fish, picnic tables, restrooms and you could take a short walks with strollers.
A second possibility is the Big Morongo Preserve, about 20 minute drive up 62, watch for signs, right turn. If you stick to the Marsh Trail, it is all boardwalk, accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. A beautiful moist oasis in the desert.

My fiance and I are looking for a good place to take engagement pictures. Also - I looveee palm trees. How does Coachella Valley Preserve compare to Indian Canyons? Which one would be better for pictures?

I've never been to Indian Canyons. The Coachella Valley is beautiful, especially the water fall if it is still flowing this late in the season.

It is indicated by the fact that vegetation naturally occurs around the area of the fissure which allows water to rise... And its signposted! 😎
