‪Waste of time. Just crumbling junk. Bakery and Museum is all that's left and they are often closed up.‬

‪The park is closed because of COVID restrictions, but the highway bisects town, so many, many photographic opportunities are available. Multiple interpretive signs are at each building, but I didn't step out to read them because of the closure.

I hope to return someday to explore and learn.

Location is 6- 7 miles west of Redding.‬

‪The museum costs 3 dollars and has many informative signs. It gives the history of the Shasta area, but also if the gold rush era, so you do not have to be local for it to be interesting. For the actual museum you do not need much time, maybe 30-45 minutes, and then you can go for a walk in the rest of the history rica life area.‬

‪I live within 10 miles of the SSHP & have enjoyed visiting here many times over the years. The remains of the brick buildings along Main Street (now Highway 299w) give an interesting glimpse of days of old. The museum is filled with very interesting historic memorabilia with a lot of facts and info. of the area. Be sure to visit the restored old store and sample some tasty food and treats at the cafe in the old Bakery.‬

‪Our family likes visiting Old Shasta State Park because it is an original town in Shasta County that has the authentic brick buildings which have begun to crumble (no roofs or windows). We take family pictures among the brick ruins for the wonderful backgrounds and ease of access. There is also a museum of artifacts from the 1800’s which is housed in a restored brick building. Many call it a ghost-town, but it is a busy little community west of Redding.‬

‪Klein van opzet en leuk om even een stopje te maken om meer over de geschiedenis te weten. In de omgeving is veel te zien en te doen: wandelen, zwemmen en kanoën. De gebouwen staan langs de weg. ‬

‪Just outside Redding is the small town of Old Shasta (not to be confused with the small town of Mt. Shasta). Lots of old brick building with good signage. Even the old hanging spot has been preserved.

They day we were there they were not any guides around, but signage was pretty good.

Bring a picnic and enjoy this small town for a couple of hours. Note: only one food option (gas station convenience store) available. The temperatures here reach well over 100 degrees F in the summer - so take extra water‬

‪Just a few miles out of Redding you can go back in history to the mid-1800’s to Shasta State Historic Park. The highlight for me was the museum/replica of the old Litsch General Store. The ranger was very knowledgeable and friendly. The artifacts were accessible and most could be seen up close or even touched. Several other buildings and a cemetery are also part of the historic park and there is a nice green park behind the Courthouse Museum. Right next door to the old Litsch General Store is Shorty’s Eatery, where you can get hot dogs, sandwiches, and drinks. Eat there or take a picnic to the park.‬

‪Opens at 10 however you can walk through beginning at sunrise as it is right off a street. If you arrive before the place officially opens at 10am, you can download the parks brochure from their website.

6 miles West of the town, worth a stop to walk around.‬

‪This hidden gem of a ghost town is about 6 miles west of downtown Redding on Hwy 299. Our original intention was to spend the day at Lassen Volcanic National Park but the park was closed due to snow (in May!). This State park was a good substitute. The museum, which is housed in the old courthouse, provided a good context of life in Shasta during the gold rush. There's even a jail and gallows in the building. At the other end of the park is the Litsch store which replicates items and merchandise that were for sale during the 1880s. In-between the courthouse museum and Litsch store are ruins of brick buildings. Park rangers offered interesting facts and stories. Allow an hour. The park is open Thursdays through Sundays; free admission but donations gratefully accepted.‬
