Views of North San Diego County can’t be beat. You can drive 90% of the way or if you want a hike there are trails available. Walking will be required to reach the top of the peak from the peak parking lot but trails are very accessible. Because it is inland it will be hot in the summer but there generally is a breeze.

Very nice park, clean and with a lovely view. It has bbq's and is a very pleasant place to be, or for a picnic with the family. Also, to flight a kite or to walk around.

This park is a real gen in North San Diego county. Located on the highest peak in the area, the views reach from the mountains to the ocean. There are lots of great hiking trails in the surrounding area, so you can park at a nearby location and hike up, or park at the top and hike down.

This is more of a viewpoint than a park. It has fantastic views from the top of the mountain. On a clear day you can see the ocean and various Islands or possibly snow-covered mountains in the distance. Hardy hikers will enjoy the trails that lead from the park. There is also one leading from the lovely Discovery Lake Park area up to Double Peak. This is a place that I like to bring visitors and they always enjoy it.

Today it was hazy due to the fog, but on a clear day you would have 360 degree views. Tables at top, no grassy area. Bathrooms too.
The hike up from below has limited parking, very few spots. It's along the road uphill...not considered a hike with no trees, bushes, flowers or water around. Just drive to the top to see the views and maybe a picnic lunch? Short walk to top from parking lot.

Our first visit was quickly followed by a second because the views are so worth it! First hike from Discovery Lake to Double Peak Park. Second hike from Lake View Ridgeline Trailhead. Both days didn't disappoint; both provided spectacular views!

I call my parents young children. Hahaha very nice for them as the walk was minimal if u drive to the parking at the very top. I, myself, a hiker would love to just walk up the hill. Though quite sunny, so try to go earlier or later and not mid-day.

On a clear day, this peak has an amazing view! Well worth the drive up, just to see the view.It helps if you live here and know what you're looking at, but there is a free telescope and markers to know what you are looking at.

Highest point in the north county. You can hike up from as far as discovery lake or just drive up since there is parking up om top.

This place is amazing with 360° views of all of San Diego. On a clear day you can see Catalina all the way to Mexico. The trails the wrap around the summit can be challenging but worth the trek. Luckily the summit is within walking distance of your car, which is extremely easy.

can you access the top viewing area with a wheel chair? I see there are handicap parking spaces.

I think so as there is parking for cars and it is a modern park, take Twin Oaks Road to the park. NOT the back trail.
Can you get in trouble for hiking double peak after dark

I believe the park closes at dusk. I would not want to hike after dark there regardless.
Is the park open after dark? Can you drive up there?

No. There is a gate appx 0.5 mile down from the top of the peak which is closed at dusk by city staff. You can park near the gate and walk up to the park and take in the view though. But get ready for some exercise, it's a steep half mile or so.

The trails start at Discovery Lake, which is about 600 feet in elevation. The top of Double Peak is 1600 feet so it's about a 1000 feet of elevation over 2 miles. So round trip is about 4 miles. The trails are well maintained and if you go in the late afternoon, it maybe shaded. Double Peak park is an excellent place to watch the sunset and you can drive up there and park in the lot.
