Really my title says it all: the square is more for the community than for tourists. However, there are lots of great restaurants near/on the square and there are a few architecturally interesting old buildings left around it.

I realize Santa Rosa spent a lot of money to improve the downtown area, but I’m missing the appeal of this project. Perhaps over time it will become more than it is. Add the onerous parking regulations, and I’m staying away. Petaluma and Healdsburg have more livelydowntowns, and free parking. Good luck Santa Rosa.

An open space that is used for community events or sitting and reflecting. On on side is the old courthouse building, now the 'Hotel E'. Metered parking is available around the square 10am to 8pm (Mon-Sat) with a 3 hour maximum. There are also some nice restaurants close to the Square.

There a ton of great restaurants very near the square. In reading some of the other reviews this is a nice space and there were plenty of people around when we were here. Seems pretty popular.

The renovated square was spacious, modern looking, and trendy. The giant plaza had no feeling, no heart, no taste, and no vibes.
In 2016, I visited Old Courthouse Square. There were many very old and large redwood trees standing magnificently tall. It provided shade for both the residents, shoppers, and workers.
When the street was made in 1967 through the original square splitting the plaza in half but they avoided cutting the California redwood trees.
In 2017 in an effort to modernize the Old Courthouse Square, the city took out the street, joined the plaza, removed many of the magnificent redwood trees, created an empty plaza with a series of new slender light poles around the plaza.
It is a giant gathering place with no connection to the original origins of Santa Rosa and surrounding country side except the an industrial feel of the light poles, no warmth except the cold metal heated by the summer sun, and no green grass resting place except the hard grey concrete.

Besides events, there are lots of great restaurants along the two blocks above and below the square. Also lots of charming shops, particularly Positively Fourth Street with its wonderful eclectic mixture of fantastic merchandise! It’s my very favorite shop in
Santa Rosa!!! There are also two movie theaters within a block of there.

I guess it was a good idea to reunify the two sections of the square that were bisected by Mendocino/Santa Rosa Ave. The larger space provides lots of possibilities for town gatherings and the farmers market. But it's a vast, open, empty space without any warmth or personality. What about a fountain? More trees? More places to sit and relax? I hope this is a work in progress.

The courthouse use to be a tranquil place with grass and beautiful old growth trees. It is now a giant cement blob with no appeal whatsoever.

The Santa Rosa Old Courthouse Square, which had been bisected after the '69 earthquake was reunited and extensively redesigned in 2017. A new hotel is being built, and there has been some changes in restaurants nearby.

Used to be nice, but now full of panhandlers and homeless people that the city just ignores. Do not feel safe, as some of the panhandlers are very aggressive.
