‪Hard to believe such an important winery has so few reviews. I guess it’s because it is so isolated from other wineries. However, for me, the remote, quiet setting so far from Napa just adds to the appeal.

I spent the day hiking with my buddy in Pinnacles NP. Didn’t have much time so we made a bee line for the vineyard (my apologies to the somm for our dust and sweat!).

The server appeared to be working alone; it wasn’t crowded (4 parties) but a lot for 1 person to serve and she did a very diplomatic job of taking care of everyone. And absolutely no snobbishness whatsoever.

The $20 tasting is not out of line for upscale wineries, though a little higher than most places I go ;-). However, the fee is waived if you buy a bottle, which most people usually do, so really the tasting is essentially free! That is unusual!

The list of wines is fairly small. The tasting included 2 chardonnays, a Grenache, a Syrah, a Pinot noir, a red blend, and a bonus chenin blanc. I would call the style “clean”. None of the wines was especially bold, but none was weak, either. All the wines from top to bottom had a similar character, reflected the winemakers style. The reserve Chardonnay was a home run; it alone was worth the trip (and I am definitely not a Chardonnay guy).

The tasting room including the outside deck is maybe big enough for 10-12 people; I wouldn’t bring too big a group.
The room is up 2 flights of stairs, so take that into account.
The “national park” is not one of the park service’s best efforts (it really should be a state park) but makes a nice 1-day package with the winery.
My only suggestion is to serve wines by the glass so guests can sit out and enjoy the vineyard views.‬

‪We drove over from Monterrey to taste their Pinot Noir. Had a great tasting with the staff. Very enjoyable and personable. Really enjoyed it. Only a few miles up the road to Pinnacles National Park. Recommended‬

‪We were put off on arrival by the cackling of 4 tippled matrons, but were greeted warmly, then feted & schooled by a knowledgeable pourer, Angelina. We tried 'em all, and they're all good. Yes, they're part of a big conglomerate. now, and they only sell direct to consumer (cut out the middleman), but the product is worthwhile. We bought a $60 bottle & were on our way.‬

‪We visited the Chalome Vineyard Tasting Room on Saturday 10/21 and Sunday 10/22.
Really neat setting in a small industrial property that has been converted to be an upscale destination with several other venues in the complex.
We had a great time, met some really interesting and fun people.
The tastings were fantastic, as was the food, and the live music. So good that we went back the next day. Chalome's wine is excellent and has won numerous awards for the various varietals.‬

‪So those reviews from a few years ago are outdated at this point and there's now a lovely tasting room overlooking the vineyards available at Chalone Vineyards. Apparently it's been there for a couple years now. Don't be scared away.

On our drive up from the South, we were looking for a winery a bit off the beaten path and are so glad we found Chalone (and didn't trust the outdated TripAdvisor reviews). Their tasting room is a bit off from 101 (about 15-20 min detour) but well worth the picturesque drive. Coming from SF, we haven't explored central coast wineries at all but we're impressed with what we found. So glad we finally explored this area.

The folks in the tasting room (Angelina and Jesus) were incredibly friendly and the wines were delicious. They have quite the offering with white and red varietals. Their Pinot Blanc and Chenin Blanc were very drinkable and unique -- we brought home a Chenin Blanc with us. But their reds were the real stars with full bodied Pinot Noirs and delicious Grenache and Syrah offerings. Their 2007 Pinot Noir was superb, as was the 2013. If we had more space in our wine fridge, we easily would've brought back more. Definitely make this a stop if you're passing by. ‬

‪after reading a very nice review of this winery and tour and tasting wine food and travel magazine 4 summer and fall edition 2014, we decided on a Sunday afternoon to take the long drive there from Monterrey. We arrived and there was a sign that said "closed to the public" and the gate was locked. We found this to be quite disturbing since the magazine said that it is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 to 5. It was a long drive and even though it's a pretty drive up to pinnacles state park, don't bother‬

‪Chalone Vinery & Tasting room used to be a really nice destination. And a "destination" it is, located in an isolated area, away from all the other wineries in the vicinity. I enjoyed going there occasionally and I loved their wines and I was a wine club member. I believe it was privately owned back then. The tasting room closed and the winery was bought out by some big company. They sent me a coupon for 25% off of an order for my birthday and I was looking forward to using it at the tasting room that was reopening after several years of closure. However, when I inquired about it (email & phone), before driving the long way out there, I was told I could only use it for online orders and would have to pay shipping. Interesting since the coupon explicitly said " mention or present this coupon....". When I told the person on the phone this, they wanted me to send them a copy of the coupon that they sent to me!! I will tell you what I told them - there is a lot of good wine/wineries out there so why would I do business with one that won't honor their own offers. I have moved on, and I suggest you skip this one too. It's a shame when big business takes over and the right hand has no idea what they left hand is doing. Visit Hahn, Pessagno, Bookenoegen, Wrath, or Talbot wineries (to name a few) instead!‬
