We stopped there as part of the Harvest Host program. Info said winery closed at 4 pm and we only got there about 10 minutes before that, but several others were arriving at the same time. Someone who said they "were just helping out" and had to go find answers to most questions. We were told that we could still order and they wouldn't chase anyone out, so that was nice. We ordered a pitcher of sangria (tastings not available) and some appetizers. Sangria was basically red wine with a couple of strawberries and mint leaf thrown in. Appetizers were ok. Place seemed a little run down. No cushions on many of the chairs (were definitely chairs that needed them). Kind of cluttered around the edges. Just OK.

We enjoyed going to Elliston Vineyards in Sunol. Its a wonderful place to taste wine. Its also a good place for events such as weddings. The grounds are beautiful

We chose Elliston because of their excellent location (away from the City, but still reachable from all over the Bay Area), beautiful grounds, very reasonable pricing, especially when considering the level of service and area provided. The location was tucked away in Sunol, but was very accessible via multiple freeways. The property grounds are gorgeous, and we received many compliments on our venue choice! We love the vineyards, koi pond, and especially the mansion. We would definitely host another event at Elliston, and recommend the venue to our friends & coworkers.
Our Day-of Coordinator was Tiffani, and she was wonderful to work with! She was knowledgeable about the venue, and provided many great tips to plan ahead so our day went as smoothly as possible. She was also very responsive to all our questions and many emails! We sent her pics of how we wanted our table decor set up, and all the Elliston staff paid special attention to all the specific details we wanted.
Also wanted to give a special thank you to Donna for opening up the mansion to us a bit early so we could take pictures indoors instead of out in the rain! The rainy weather was a big surprise, but Elliston was a big help in adjusting and keeping our day special and magical.
Finally, the food. Yummy scalloped potatoes! Many of our guests came back for more servings! Also, the salmon was fresh and cooked to perfection. Many of our guests raved about the salmon. Overall, the food tasted much better when compared to when we went to the food tasting. High value for price.

The staff were very helpful to my niece for her wedding in the fall of 2018. Beautiful place.
The only negative, and it can be a game-changer: Ensure the all invited guests are not mobility limited in any way - access to/from any of the buildings requires a very healthy ability to walk! NOT wheelchair, walker or even cane user friendly.

Thank you for the review! I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed your niece's wedding last year, and that you found our staff helpful!
One thing I wanted to add - we do offer rides to our reception space for any guests who have mobility limitations. This way they can avoid the walk and staircase all together. We offer this service to all weddings and events free of charge.

Attended a wedding here and it was lovely. The wedding was on the lawn in front of a gazebo and the reception was in a large dining room with an attached patio. About 1/4 of the tables were out on the patio. That was ok, since it was a beautiful evening, but could be a problem if the weather had not co-operated. There were about 120 guests and the food was very good and so was the service. The food was served quickly. Everyone at a single table was served at the same time, so no one was waiting for their food. The table settings and decorations were very well done and the outdoor surroundings were intimate. The banquet area is up a rather steep hill and had quite a few stairs. I am not sure if there was an alternate entry option for people that might have mobility issues. Also, it was quite dark along the path once the sun went down.
Overall it was an excellent evening and Elliston did a great job.

The place is beautiful. The wedding went off very well on a beautiful August day, not hot, not cold, sunny!
We went into the dining hall for the wedding banquet. It was tastefully decorated with flowers as ordered by the bride. However the place is small and a third of the guests had to sit outside. Nice till the evening got chilly!
The food was good, however the presentation left much to be desired. The canapes were good, however the sizes were inconsistent. Some of the smoked salmon topped cucumbers were more than half an inch thick, others were rather thin. Same for the baked potatoes with a dollop of sour cream. Then some bacon rolls, they were surprisingly tasteless.
When the first course, salad arrived, we knew it had been slopped on the plates.
The mains, salmon or steak was tasty but again the potatoes were inconsistently prepared, some sliced, some chunks, plonked over the creamed spinach.
"Plating" leaves much to be desired for an otherwise classy winery and event.
The hostess told me that no dessert was included and she had taken the trouble to cook delicacies from their home country, only to end up arguing with the winery coordinator for the event for serving bowls and cutlery?
There was a wedding cake and it was cut and boxed? Those few boxes didn't seem to account for the 3 tiers.
Otherwise it was a beautiful wedding in a beautiful place.

Thank you for leaving a review of Elliston! I'm glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your experience at Elliston. Thank you for letting us know about the appetizers. They are all made by scratch from hand which might be why there is some inconstancy in sizing, although we try to make them all the same size. I'll pass on your notes to our chef.
Regarding your other notes, we allow all of our couples to create their floor plan with suggestions and guidance from our staff. Their guest count was larger than our indoor capacity, which is why there were guests sitting outside. The couple was aware of this before booking.
The event manager was not aware that the couple was bringing in a dessert that required prep in our kitchen. We did accommodate their request, and apologized for any miscommunication.
The couple requested that the cake was cut and boxed up in labeled boxes that the bride supplied. The top two layers of the cake were fake, which is why she only needed about 20 boxes for the cake. There was a small amount of cake remaining, which was boxed up and sent home with the couple at the end of the night.

We visited for a wedding. Lovely location on a hill. Setting for reception dinner and dancing was pretty and intimate. I was, however, concerned about some of those with limited mobility -- everything was up a hill. Local wines accompanying dinner wee quite pleasant.

Thank you for your review, I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Elliston Vineyards for a wedding! We do have handicap accessible entrances to the ceremony site, and reception room. We let every bride and groom know this, and if we are informed of any guests who may have an issue, we can arrange for guests with limited mobility to be driven up to the reception space.
We hope to see you again for some wine tasting! Our tasting room is open every Saturday & Sunday from 11am - 4pm.

We enjoyed our wine tasting at Elliston Vineyards. Elliston Vineyards is in a historic home which is a national landmark. The home was established in 1890 by pioneer Henry Ellis. There are pretty gardens surrounding the home. It is a popular place for events and wedding; while we were there they were preparing for a late afternoon wedding and dinner reception.
We tasted both their wine and red wines. We purchased a bottle of their NV Captain’s Blend. It is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cab franc.
Staff was very nice and was very helpful in answering our questions we had.

This place is close to home...Heard about it forever and always wanted to visit...Glad I did. Mr. Ellis was an early Police Chief of San Francisco, his home and within is the lovely tasting room and their wines are VERY reasonable FOR California wines and quite good. I drank mostly whites and their lovely sparking wine (champagne) Beautiful turn of the last century home with some nice antiques located in Sunol, a canyon that is very rustic and lovely. One of the better wine tasting experiences in all the Livermore valley/East Bay areas that I've experienced. I highly recommend for couples who just want a day outing or who are visiting. Different type of setting...You'd NEVER know it was there...A real gem in the east bay of Northern California.
