We discovered, thanks to the detailed visit made with the Guide, Mr. Fabrizio, a small jewel near Turin. The passion of the explanation provided, was an added value to this beautiful experience.

Place of the suggestive spirit where reigns a magical and mystical atmosphere and full of charm.The Preceptory in Piedmontese-Gothic style inside the Church with three naves divided by pillars and pointed arches are preserved beautiful frescoes by Giacomo Jaquerio including the most important The Calvary a unique work of extraordinary beauty.In the central nave there are frescoes representing the temptations and works of St. Anthony in addition to the Annunciation and the Madonna and many other frescoes of great value, including a work by Defendente Ferrari. Congratulations to the kind and Mrs. Doriana expert guide very helpful and prepared to satisfy every curiosity of the visitor .. Last gem the exteriors of the Precettoria were used for the shooting of various films between the directors Dario Argento (The three mothers) and recently the actor and director Sergio Rubini in Leopardi film Rai.Un place worth the visit on the Via Francigena on the highway 25 that connects Turin with the Susa valley and neighboring France.

Although I have lived a few kilometers away for about twenty years and knew of its existence, I had never been to visit it.
My idea was that it was a historical site, but of little importance.
I was surprised!
Not only the abbey, which is the main building but a complex that also served as a hospital.
Construction began in the 12th century, however its greatest importance took on in the 14th century in the treatment of plague victims.
Building, Romanesque-Gothic, with splendid terracotta facade, interior full of frescoes.
The sacristy is completely frescoed by Giacomo Jaquerio, perhaps the most important medieval Piedmontese painter.

The monastic complex of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso is in Gothic style. In a well-preserved natural setting. The Antonian monks provided assistance to those suffering from the so-called shingles. The church was equipped with an impressive cycle of frescoes during the 15th century. On the façade, a notable example of Gothic architecture, there is a portico with three lights surmounted by gables decorated with giant leaves, flowers, fruit and rich vegetation, ending in pinnacles, terracotta decorations heavily reinstated by the interventions of Alfredo d'Andrade. Also noteworthy is the bell tower, in terracotta, with three orders of mullioned windows enriched by lunettes with glazed ceramic basins. Inside the church, on the main altar, there is the large polyptych by Defendente Ferrari representing the Nativity, while, in the lower part, episodes from the life and miracles of Sant'Antonio Abate are portrayed. The presbytery houses on the left wall the "Madonna enthroned and the Saints John the Baptist, Antonio Abate, Martha, Margaret, Nicholas and Martin and the Prophets" by Giacomo Jaquerio; on the right wall, there are the "Stories of Sant´Antonio Abate and the farmers who offer pigs to Sant´Antonio". In the sacristy Jaquerio frescoes, in the sails of the cruises, within rich frames, "The Four Evangelists", on the walls the "Oration in the Garden" and the impressive "Climb to Calvary". Ticket price €5. To be seen.

Little-known gem. The absolutely marvelous frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries were only discovered a century ago under a layer of plaster. A discovery not to be missed a few kilometers from St Michel de la Cluse / Sacra San Michele.

Spesso sottovalutata e fuori dagli itinerari di massa, anche lungo la strada mancano indicazioni, la precettoria è un gioiello di architettura e decorazione romanica. D’obbligo una sosta se nei dintorni

Oltre alla alla chiesa in stile gotico c’è un bel campanile, il convento ad anche un vecchio ospitale che serviva sia ad ospitare i pellegrini ma soprattutto a curare i malati in modo particolare quelli con il fuoco di S. Antonio; purtroppo non è visitabile perché decadente. Le costruzioni risalgono al 1185 dc circa. All’Interno della chiesa una serie di affreschi molto interessante (le storie di Sant’Antonio, la vergine con il bambino etc..). Interessanti anche gli affreschi della cappella con i quattro evangelisti, scene dell’annunciazione, la preghiera nell’orlo degli ulivi e altre rappresentazioni attribuite a Jaquerio. Il complesso è situato esattamente sulla via Francigena. Ingresso 5€.
