We made a day trip to Ouray to see the Alchemist Museum. We had a bit of a scheduling issue, but they were so willing to accommodate our needs.
My fiancee and I could have spent days listening to all the stories associated with each item in the collection. It is a unique and fascinating collection.

This place is seriously amazing. The proprietor and owner is a skillful storyteller, knowledgeful and absolutely engaging and filled with fun, love, and laughter. His love of alchemy and collecting history will make your and my jaw drop. A vast collection of history and a wealth of knowledge is not only written on the items collected but also the owners love of the items within. My advice in visiting here is stop and listen and be enriched not only by the sights but by the phenomenal storytelling. Mine and my boyfriend's minds were just blown away.

I'm glad you both had an outstanding time because I did. I cherish history and really enjoy people who deeply appreciate what they are experiencing. You never know how your day will turn out - sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but I had a fun time with you both talking about history. We love Ouray and I thought we had done everything there was to do. On a whim I Googled "things to do in Ouray". We had such a great time! This is like a history lesson orated by a comedian sprinkled with a bit of Mr. Magoreum's Wonder Emporium. Don't miss this experience!

I had a great time as a pharmacology student learning about the history of pharmaceuticals. Curt is very knowledge about the history of medicine throughout the years. He was welcoming and an amazing tour guide.

We really enjoyed the antiques. The story is fun and educational. He has some very interesting pieces of history from all over the world. Even our 14 and 16 year old homeschooling teen girls loved it. Thanks for the memories. I will be telling everyone to come here!

This was the highlight of our trip, it felt like stepping into another world. The owner has dedicated his life to the collection, it was wonderful to hear his story and the passion behind it. he told us the captivating story of medicine from the beginning of time to present, just off the top of his head! you could tell how much he had cared for this topic and his collection for years and years, he has so many wonderful antiques i would have never had a chance to see, stories and connections i could have never made myself! he said lots of things to us that will stick with me for a long time. If you have the chance to meet this kind soul and hear his story I absolutely recommend it! I will absolutely see him again at our next visit!

This was the best museum tour! It’s a two hour tour for only $12. There is so many things to look at and the curator, Curt, is an entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide. So interesting and entertaining! I would go back as the tour is probably never the same! I highly recommend even if you have no alchemy knowledge.

We were really looking forward to seeing this museum so we scheduled a tour with Curt about two or three weeks ahead to make sure he was available. What a fantastic experience this was! Not only is the collection of items enormous and all-encompassing over every period of pharmacies but Curt himself was an absolute master at adding to the various displays with his extensive collection of stories, knowledge of history and his sense of humor. He kept things personable by continuously referring to us by our names and making references both to where we currently live as well as the two different states we grew up in. Learning the various perspectives of how the development of pharmacies affected political events of various times was certainly eye-opening, as was the discovery of how easy it was to call oneself a pharmacist or even a doctor once upon a time. Curt's attention to detail and the whole flow of his presentation was masterful. I'm so glad we were able to experience it and we'd certainly visit again the next time we are in Ouray.

Sorry, we just saw your question. Because of this most precious holiday time with family, we are closed until the 26th. It is best to call ahead if you would like to schedule a tour. Curt gives tours at 10 am and sometimes a second tour at 1 pm if we have one booked. 970-325-4003

Hi -- yes, this will not be a problem. It's all street level and very accessible, and the museum and all that there is to see is all on one floor. You will love it. Great tour and experience.

I am bringing my swimming team to Ouray the 25-30th of June. I would love to schedule a tour for them. We are in the pool training from 10-12 every day so we could only make an afternoon tour. Do you have anything after 1pm available for Tuesday the 26th? It would be around 20 people, and what is the cost?

Since it is after Labor Day, I am usually there from 10 am to 4 pm. Tours are given at 10 am. Sometimes a second tour will be given at 1 pm. It is really best to call ahead to schedule the tour, especially now that the major summer season has passed. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that I will be available every day 365 days a year. The store is not the museum. Some people think it is because of our historic fixtures spread throughout the retail portion of our business. You cannot enter the museum without scheduling a tour.

It is a one level museum. Don't remember if there is a small step into the building.
How much does it cost to take a tour?

It is $10.00 per person. The tour is customized to your interests and lasts as long as you desire - anywhere from about an hour up to two and 1/2 hours. If you have limited time I can do a shortened version of the tour, but most people want to stay indefinitely once they experience the tour.
