The Railroad Museum is located at 200 N. Railroad Street, next door to the Ranch History Museum, NOT at 702 Sherman St. I am the museum vice-president, and we have no idea where the Sherman Street address came from.

We were driving through town and noticed a sign referencing the museum. They have pit a lot of effort into restoring the history and significance of railroads in the development of our country. We were surprised to find beds and a stove in the caboose. Stop by and spend a few minutes reliving the past.

We were on a 'Galloping Goose' quest. And the Ridgeway Railroad Museum has two! (well actually one and one reproduction). The Museum is under a large awning off to the side of a large dirt parking lot. It is very much a 'work in progress'. There under the awning are two parallel tracks with a number of train cars and the two Geese. The train cars are in the process of renovation. The Geese all set to go. While it's a bit spartan, it's a nice little museum. (and OBTW we really appreciated the COVID awareness. There on a bench was hand sanitizer and a box of masks. Nice job guys.).
It was sure fun to see the Geese and other train cars. And to experience work they had done.

We stopped by just to get some interesting photos, but ended up with a free guided tour inside and out by a professional railroad man who has rebuilt some of the historic rail cars. This part of Colorado was built on the mining development made possible by the railroad to move the rich ore. Novel passenger vehicles were built and used. Those are on display and on weekends there are rail rides around a loop in the park.

Remember good travelers always reconfirm and verify. Open Memorial Day Week-end!
Interesting for young and old, the history of the mining communities in the West, along with cowboys, Indians and railroads. NOT wheelchair accessible (step stairs). New sidewalks around Ridgway make this stop a must! Town Park one block over. The citizens of USA all love trains!

The trains and Galloping Goose have moved to behind the Ridgway Ranch history museum. On the Saturday we were there, they were giving free rides on the Galloping Goose. Two times around the train track oval equaled a mile. We enjoyed the ride and talking with the driver and docents. They are still working on restoring the train cars but there are many good photos. The rest of the museum in in the Ridgway Visitor's Center with lots of memorabilia and photos. They also have a completely restored Ford Model T mofified to ride on train tracks for the head of the railroad.

Try and stop by whenever we are in the area, Lots of history in this little place and the the rest of the town as well.

We enjoyed the museum pictures a railroad items. It is small, but pretty interesting. At a separate site, they have a few railcars to view that look like they are being restored. Maybe in a few years, they will be completed?

Tried to visit this museum in March (while on vacation in Telluride.) Museum isn't as pictured (photo is of a store in town, where no one knew details about the train museum); the actual museum was closed (and seemed to be under construction); only the outdoor part was accessible across the street, but couldn't go into any of the vintage train cars because everything was locked up. I would suggest calling to get an update before making a special trip.

Wer auf der Durchreise in Ridgway Colorado ist und sich für Eisenbahnen interessiert, sollte hier kurz anhalten. 20 Minuten sollten für das Museum genügen. Der Eintritt ist kostenlos. Im Aussenbereich stehen ein paar sehr interessante, teils begehbare Waggons. Dazu gibt es noch einen Raum der sich der Geschichte widmet, bzw. schöne Modellbahnen zeigt.
