‪A small castle ruin that’s free…excellent for people who like that sort of thing. It’s quite cool. The kids like it. ‬

‪We hadn’t planned to visit the castle but there it was easily seen from the road. Drove down the lane and parked by the river. Great value to visit as it’s free! The castle area is beautifully kept, grass cut and maintained. There is sufficient information to provide a back drop to the castles history without going over the top and becoming a turn off. Really is well worth a visit and if the tide is out you might like to take the stepping stones to the other side of the river. We didn’t as I forgot her ladyships wellies! She hardly mentioned it at all!!! Oh and if the person who left their two empty cans of lemonade and a bag of dog faces on the ramparts is reading this maybe you might consider taking your hit home with you next time I have done it this time.‬

‪There’s not a lot here so only plan to have a short stop, but they are some lovely ruins and there’s a stream nearby with stepping stones over it which is very fun (although time it around tides!)‬

‪Easy to find on the B4524 opposite the Pelican Inn. Parking immediately outside the castle next to the river, which is tidal and can rise to cover the car park. A nice structure with enough left to give the impression of what it might have looked like. Quite a busy location in summer with the beaches nearby, good walks, a horse riding stable and pub.‬

‪Whilst it is just ruins there's still plenty for the imagination to work with. Could have done with some more information about what was there and the history. Limited free parking available next to the river.‬

‪We drove just under an hour to visit this after seeing lovely photos other people had posted of the river stepping stones etc. I have to say it was not what I was expecting. It is great for free of charge but everything was a bit of a hassle. In my opinion, no way should there be a 'car park' right by the river, it completely takes the magic away from the area. It was also unexpectedly busy in such a tiny area. I'm pregnant so didn't even attempt to cross the stones in the end because heavy rain left most underwater and lots of children were balancing/trying to overtake on the same stones as other people trying to cross. The castle was OK but tiny, spent no more than 5 minutes there. Didn't expect the horse stables right there which made it really muddy and lots of horse poo. Worth a visit on a sunny day if you are in the area and are prepared footwear wise but I felt it's not what people had made it out to be.‬

‪Worth a (free) stop - 45 mins max. Cross stepping stones at low tide. Castle ruins nice, good picnic spot in fine weather but in rain 20 mins tops to walk around.‬

‪This place has received some form of certification of excellence but there’s nothing excellent about it. My wife and I parked up at Merthyr Mawr church with a view to having a lovely meal at the well promoted Pelican pub. We had understood there to be a series of stepping stones that would convey us across the Ewenny River but we found the whole area to be swamped and the river a torrent. In her attempt to cross, my wife fell in, ruining her mobile telephone. My attempt was equally graceless and I even lost my trousers. They were a particularly favourite pair and to see them being swept downstream was heartbreaking. The force of that river is alarming and I think people need to be warned about this. Our afternoon was ruined, not least because my wife saw me in my knickers. I don’t recommend a visit ‬
