Close to the old part of Al Hamra, partly under renovation, this beautiful and large house offers an insight into the environments, furnishings, fabrics and activities that can be found there. A person will accompany you and illustrate how to live in an Omani house, through rooms for processing dates, rooms for processing and preparing legumes and bread, cooking, and everything that can be found in a house. In my opinion, the building is beautiful and all in all, through the conversation with one of the guys who accompanies you, you can also understand the concept of how houses should be experienced. Nice safeguard effort, I don't understand those who object to an entrance fee of 7.5 euros. Much better than other more artificial museums.

Abdullah, the main man at the Hospitality Inn, in Musfah said we must go. In truth had he not insisted, we probably wouldn’t have bothered. Afterall an old house, with a few Omani historical artefacts wouldn’t be worth going to surely? Wrong, wrong, wrong! Abdullah of course spot on.
Situated in the heart of the old town with crumbling mud built houses dating back 400 years all around, this was a fascinating insight into what life was like up to an including less than 30 years ago. The welcome was very good and we were shown different rooms and artefacts including a kitchen where live demonstrations of cooking were really good and full value for the 3 OMR entry fee.
We enjoyed complimentary tea/coffee and dates and met fascinating people to chat with from all around the world. A real treat.
So go. Just go. Sometimes you just have to try these things and be surprised. Excellent visit, thank you.

Amidst dilapidated mud-brick houses, a reminder of a city full of life, this carefully renovated palace allows you to take a journey into a bygone time. The precise and kind guide and also the demonstration, for purchases, of old domestic uses make it easy for you to understand the life of that country. In the end, good and satisfying dates and coffee lying in an airy and bright room

This "museum" house is structured to reflect and show the tourist Omani traditions: how to make bread, how to obtain oil, how to prepare coffee. Furthermore, you can visit all the other rooms barefoot to get an idea of how the Omanis expanded their homes as the family grew.
The decorations and furniture/furnishings of the rooms are very beautiful, the welcome is very warm.
Sure... it may seem like a trap for tourists, everything is repeated in the same way, but on the other hand I haven't seen other places that can offer such an experience and we liked it a lot, but Alì was certainly very good , our guide, who let us arrive at a time when the house was "little frequented" by groups so we enjoyed it in peace.

A well-worth an hour of your time. This house is nicely restored and maintained, and together with the explanation and positive attitude of the in-house guides and locals who demonstrate - you end up learning quite a bit. Look at the amazing decoration of the ceilings - the painted palm tree trunks. Recommended.

We really enjoyed visiting this old house and watching the demonstrations of home arts and cooking. Our guide was Ibrahim who was very friendly and gave full explanations of everything in the house. Ibrahim was open to any and all questions which helped us learn a lot about culture and home life within the house.
You are able to visit virtually every room in the home and at the top level you can have great views of the old city as it was built with mud.
This is a stopped you should definitely add to your tour!

Accueil chaleureux et contacts directs, visite interactive et instructive avec démonstrations. On ne sent pas dans un musée mais dans une maison

I found all toilets in Oman to be clean and decent, but did not use the toilet at Bait al Safah.

How much are the costs of this excursion? The entrance fee I mean?

Hi, I live in Seeb and would like to visit the Damaniyat Islands to snorkel with my family. Is this something you organise?
Thank you, Tina Squires

Hi Tina, Bait Al Safah doesn't organise trips to the Damaniyat Islands. You can find some travel agency in muscat that have trips to the Damaniyat Islands.
We are looking for your visit to Bait Al Safah.
