‪This was a small museum at the edge of the Fort Lauderdale airport and the only building remaining from the original Naval air station.

I learned a great deal of history during my visit from one of the volunteers.

The building housed the LINK trainer (a tiny flight simulator) that pilots had to train on before being qualified. A desk in front also contained the equipment used to evaluate their performance.

A large library was at the end and bookcases and tables were full of articles, books and magazines covering base operations through the present day.

Another room was dedicated to President George HW Bush who was a trainee at the base. His footlocker, photos and other personal effects were displayed here along with details about his visit when the museum was established.

The base was also memorialized for the infamous Flight 19 that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. A marker and biographical details of the pilots and crew were on display towards the back.

I learned a lot about the evolution of the WWII fighter plane through the models on display. Many more airplanes, ship models were here along with an eclectic collection of uniforms, flags, plaques, etc.

Outside the museum were torpedoes, anti submarine mortar battery and a deck gun.

Good stop if you have the time. The volunteers would enjoy having more visitors!‬

‪George gave a wonderful and interesting tour. This is my second visit and I accompanied a retired marine this trip. Historic and complete with planes and ships, pictures of places and the people involved in this memorialization of world wars I and II. I encourage visitors to enjoy a visit. They are only open on Saturdays 11:30 to 3. They are also open to commemorate the loss of the flight of trainers below Florida on December 5 every year.‬

‪Interesting small museum with dedicated volunteers eager to show you around. Lots of model aircraft, old uniforms, flight suits and memorabilia. There is also a library filled with books and newspaper clippings. Definitely worth supporting.‬

‪Run by volunteers, open a few hours a week, collection of stuff people have sent in rather than throw out. Some volunteers know a few things about the museum but most don’t. Lifesized cardboard cutout of Trump in the main room, who IMHO has no place in a WWII military museum, having never served. Room dedicated to George HW Bush, who indeed did train here to fly Avenger torpedo bombers.

I would not bother.‬

‪We had the best, knowledgeable World war II guide ever. Our small homeschool group loved his dramatic story telling tour. You have to go!‬

‪Wonderful small museum run by volunteers. My father served as a radio man and tail gunner and was trained at this base. I was able to see a model of the plane he flew in and the docent explained where he would have sat and the job he did. It was interesting and although my father passed long ago, I felt he was there with me. Definitely worth doing as the artifacts were all donations. We must not let this history die. The story needs to be told.‬

‪Museum is a lot larger than it looks from the outside and is a treasure trove of paraphernalia from the wars. The volunteers that maintain it and provide tours have so much knowledge and interest in showing people around.‬

‪Limited hours! We arrived 1/2hr before closing and the door was locked, with instructions to go around to the back door. No response there either. Back to the front and we were allowed in after promising to be out by closing. The airport was WWII training site for a specific bomber. GW Bush trained there and has a room dedicated to him. Lots of aircraft models.. The Bermuda Triangle mysteries began with the missing flight from this base. USS Enterprise model there. Small garden area outside with airplane figure laid out on the ground. There was no charge for visiting the museum.‬

‪Well, I really wanted to see this place, being the military guy that I am. I looked it up on a sunday and saw that it was closed. Okay, things are closed on the weekend, so I thought nothing of it. Monday came and we took a LYFT to the place and walked about 100 feet to the door. It was locked and the place was closed. Upon further inspection of the door, the operation days an hours were listed. The dang place is closed on mon, tues and wed. What sort of place is this? Needless to say, we were greatly disappointed and quickly went to plan B on our itinerary.‬

‪The Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum had been on my "must see" list for a long time and during a recent trip to Florida, my husband and I were finally able to go. We cannot say enough great things about the museum, volunteers, exhibits, and pure heart and dedication that was present during our visit. We wish that we lived closer because we would love to be frequent visitors and volunteers but we hope that everyone will make this an essential stop if you are in the Fort Lauderdale area! Thank you to the hard-working and dedicated staff who gave us an excellent walk-through tour, answered our questions, and even gave us something very special related to my husband's service that we will treasure forever. Keep up all your hard work and know that there are people out there (of all ages!) that appreciate what you do and will carry the torch of NEVER FORGETTING as the years go on!‬
